In the "Running in The first 1000km" section of the owners handbook, under the "Running in speeds" table, it says "Do not omit the first inspection after 500-1200 km". Does that mean the first service ? And can it be left as late as 745miles ?

Does this mean dealers are flexible on the 600 mile service ? After an unplanned ride yesterday mine has now done 588 miles. It's 20 miles to the dealers, so can I afford to ride it to work again (50 mile round trip) before the first service ?

Peter

PS: I did try to search for "First service" but the search seems to only search for "first" or "service" :-(

Yes you can - it'll be fine! :thumb

Just over 1k.

Had my first done at just over 1000m. Didn't matter, BMW have honoured warranty since then without question.

Don't worry, ride the thing. Book it in for the first service, tell them the mileage now and how much it will rise each day, take a name when booking in if your really worried. They won't care! Put on 1000's of miles and they may moan but a few hundred over is neither here or there.

Roger.

600 miles service booked, and 600 miles passed on the way to work this morning. Should there be a warning light or something flashing now ? :augie

Not unless its fecked!!

Not usual to have a warning light for a 600mile, although the 800GS's have a service (6000miler) reminder pop up on the LCD when you turn the ignition on, dunno bout the new 1200's doing that?

That's odd ..... normally after 600 miles if you haven't had it serviced there is big red STOP warning flashes on the dash and the canbus shuts the whole bike down :hide

600 mile service completed this morning.... Now I can actually start to ride the thing when ever I want to :-)

I'm slightly surprised it's got fully synth oil in it now. 1L of top up now on the shelf in the shed.
