Just wanted to start a thread with my thoughts for a trip next year for my 40th :beerjug:

Plan;
Father drives my Defender 110 with trailer and three bikes, (my GS, mates GSA and t'other has a KTM adventure), to either Southern Spain or Tangier, (not decided, not investigated yet).
The privileged three fly to meet bikes.
Father has 110 prepped for carrying all the spares, camping equipment, fridge for beer etc..
Father meets us each night to setup camp.
We would 'try' for 7 days off the beaten track riding.
We want to keep clear of built up areas.

That's about as far as I have planned.
Not sure on the best time of year to go as we're camping?
Not sure if it's worth/ cheaper to meet in Spain or Tangiers.
Not sure of route yet and if it's possible.
Not sure if 110, (with 130k miles on her already), will make it:rob
Not sure if my two mates can get a pass to even go yet.
One thing I am sure of is, my father's up for it and I'll be going even if it's 'just the two of us'.
'I have a dream, that one day....':thumb

Great post:thumb:clap

Ignore all the advice you be given here (which seems to have already started:D) just go by making your own plans and decisions, you'll have a far richer experience:)

Great idea, good luck to your old fella, sure you'll have a great trip :thumb2

Chaps,
Thanks for the support:thumb2
My fathers 60th this weekend, so going to discuss further plans with him.
Will keep you updated.

If you're heading down into Western Sahara.......
On a single sheet of paper, put down personal and vehicle details for every member of the party.
Photocopy 50 times.
Hand over at police check points.
Takes 20 seconds instead of 20 minutes.

Sounds like a great plan, but two things spring to mind.

Security of bikes on the 2/3 day trip that dad is making needs to be considered. If he is driving down through France and Spain alone, make sure the bikes are chained to the trailer and the trailer chained to the Landy... and then make sure he sleeps with one eye open ;)

Secondly, if dad is driving the Landy alone in Morocco, make sure he has a way of staying in contact with you guys should he or the Landy have any problems.

Late March, April, early May is one of the best times of the year. If you can't make that then late Sept/Oct is also fine :thumb2

Oh and don't forget Bakermans advice :thumb2

I just got back from 2 weeks had a fab time, no problems what so ever :D

Dont think I would camp though personally...

You can get accommodation at £20 a night that includes evening meal + breakfast and en-suite.. ive heard camp sites are like £10 a night, not unless you just chuck your tent up in the middle of know where of course :P

Chuck some beer in the back of the lanny as well saves trying to find a super market as not everywhere stocks it... so we were having to do a few miles extra just to find some for the evening

other than that you will have a blast :friday

Just have your equipment ready before you leave, otherwise there is nothing to extreme to worry about. As with everything over in Morocco haggle for the best price, play on the old tactic of, this is not your fist time and to give you their best price then nock them down from there.

Some of the ground is quite hard so consider a tent that is free standing. We had no problems finding campsites. No problems with getting fuel even if it is from 10 year olds with a 5 litre juice container.

It would be worth finding out about the old man driving into Morocco with 3 bikes that are not his, as customs are very tight on the bike and owner being together when crossing the border. (somebody correct me if I am wrong)

Somewhere on here you will find a link to help with the custom forms.

what ever happens consider it part of the fun and enjoy.

The ride report that was done for are trip.
