FISHING BY BIKE

I am just starting to learn how to fish. I’ve had one short fly fishing lesson a few years ago and had a day course fishing with a mate last week. Didn’t catch anything but learned lots. Hoping to go again on Monday.

Where are you based Glenn?

West/North Yorkshire border. I went fishing near Silsden last week at a fishing lake. Like I said I’m hoping to go again on Monday. Probably to the same lake. Another mate goes to a different fishing lake above Lothersdale so I would like to go there at some time.
The fly fishing lesson was at Helwith Bridge at an old flooded quarry.

When I was travelling around Europe I bought a cheap Decathlon telescopic rod and reel which packed small . Lots of campsites had lakes and I surprised some by catching decent size Carp on floating bread crust whilst sipping coffee outside my tent. Great fun with some Carp around the 8llb mark which isnt bad for a small town lake

Is camping an option? There is a good saltwater venue with the option of freshwater from the bank in and around Ravenglass. Campsite just up the road from the nuclear place Sellafield? Something like that. I know where it is but can't remember names. Mullet on fly, bass on fly or lure, seatrout... trout and perch in the lakes.

Any hints in this list, Simon?

I’d be up for a north east visit. I might even bring my stick, string and bent pin. All very Huckleberry Finn.

Err, Ravenglass is in the North West. On the West coast.

Yep definitely North West. So when you’re up for your North East visit you will be on the other side of the country.

A few places near Moffat appear in a simple search, including two stocked lochs in town, also this place nearby which is cheaper

Plenty of accommodation in the town
