I am just starting to learn how to fish. I’ve had one short fly fishing lesson a few years ago and had a day course fishing with a mate last week. Didn’t catch anything but learned lots. Hoping to go again on Monday.

West/North Yorkshire border. I went fishing near Silsden last week at a fishing lake. Like I said I’m hoping to go again on Monday. Probably to the same lake. Another mate goes to a different fishing lake above Lothersdale so I would like to go there at some time.Where are you based Glenn?
You can believe whatever you likeI believe the half way point of lands end to John O’Groats is Cumbria so the border country isn’t far out

I do, that’s where my facts come fromYou can believe whatever you like

Same would roughly apply to N.Ireland (time wise including ferry)- keeping an eye on this thread.I believe the half way point of lands end to John O’Groats is Cumbria so the border country isn’t far out
I’m easy as long as the fishing is good and somewhere to stay and drinkSame would roughly apply to N.Ireland (time wise including ferry)- keeping an eye on this thread.
Is camping an option? There is a good saltwater venue with the option of freshwater from the bank in and around Ravenglass. Campsite just up the road from the nuclear place Sellafield? Something like that. I know where it is but can't remember names.
Err, Ravenglass is in the North West. On the West coast.Any hints in this list, Simon?

I’d be up for a north east visit. I might even bring my stick, string and bent pin. All very Huckleberry Finn.
Yep definitely North West. So when you’re up for your North East visit you will be on the other side of the country.I’d be up for a north east visit. I might even bring my stick, string and bent pin. All very Huckleberry Finn.

As (I think) John Lennon said, time you’ve enjoyed wasting is not time wastedWell the second time coarse fishing. Did not catch anything again. A couple of times something took the bait but either I didn’t notice or I was too slow. Never mind, I’m learning.
I’ve had a rod and reel given. I did need to change the line on the reel and with the help of a couple of YouTube videos I have managed it.
I do need to get quite a lot of other stuff but this is feeling like a new hobby in the making.
I may well be asking the advice of our competent fishing members in the future but so far it’s a great way to waste, sorry spend a day.
Been round that area - lovely part of ScotlandA few places near Moffat appear in a simple search, including two stocked lochs in town, also this place nearby which is cheaper
