NOTE NOTE NOTE

This will only work on the LC up to 08/16

you need to remove the battery housing after that if you want to fit an Odyssey after that

Well it is possible - thought i'd document how

Background - I bought and Odyssey for the hexhead about 3 years ago,

Sold the bike and bought a LC -

That battery failed, and i couldn't see then, how to fit the Odyssey. so it stayed in its box and i bought a Motobatt

Thats been in the bike for just over 2 years, but it spent the last 6 months off charge just sitting there (bike was being repaired)

Noticed over the last week or so, that starting is a 2 revolution cycle , so i thought .. time to change ;)

I'd seen an article showing how to fit an Odyssey to the Lc, its on Motoworks, but its not too clear

So with nothing better to do ....

First off was check the battery

The Odyssey has been sitting for some time , and showed 12.2V according the Odysseys paperwork, it was at 50% charge

Stuck it on the Optimate and left it for a couple of hours

Lights went green, and voltage checked - 12.86v = fully charged

Fitment -

First thing to note, the Odyssey is a chunky puppy

Its taller, longer & wider than the Motobatt

Odyssey 156 x 99 x 158

Motobatt 151 x 87 x 145

Of note is that they are both bigger than the OE offering ;)

The Motobatt almost fills the exsisting space, so the Odyssey needs some cosmetic surgery :D

First off is the Positive terminal end +Ve

All of the plastic side ribs need to be removed, including the top lip, seems scary, but armed with a stanley knife

It took about 2hrs overall to do everything

Negative terminal end -Ve

Two ways to approach this,

The negative lead needs to run inboard of the retaining cover, so you can do one of two methods

Method 1, Remove all the ribs as per the Positive end

Method 2, Remove 3 ribs from the LHS of the battery , and trim the rest to allow the cable to sit where the ribs were.

Fit Battery

The rubber strap that went over the battery , but inside the housing, now need to be fed outside the housing ( takes a minute to re position)

Fit the Positive lead and push the battery in, you have to angel it to clear the upper lip and over the lower lip ,

once your passed that, it slides in

NOTE NOTE NOTE

Its a snug fit, so the way to remove the battery now is to put a thin screwdriver under the battery an lever it up over the retaining lip.

You can then us the -Ve terminal as a hold and pull the battery out

Connect the +VE terminal back to the bike (including any accessory flyleads )

Fit the end cover, this has the benefit of holding the Negative lead close to the bike ,which means the outer cover fits a lot better .

Fit accessory leads and reconnect the Negative terminal

Tidy the flyleads, and fit the rubber retaining strap.

Refit outer cover

Thats it

With the Oddysy in, it was 1.5 turns to start

Charging a 14.2V

Did notice that its standing voltage with the bike turned on, but not running was 11.8v, i'll go out and recheck in a couple of hrs

I stuck the motobatt on charge it was reading 13.1V when fully charged.

That can go back in the shed as a spare ;)

Hope it helps
