It was real easy to do, just whip the exhaust can off, seat off and undo the top and bottom bolts. remove the tie wraps from the left side of teh mudgaurd by the shocker to allow you to get the old shocker out and the new one in. The damping adjustment sits on the left hand side.

One thing I never realised before was just how light the Air shock actually is compared to the Ohlin and any other standard shock. BMW never mentioned that.

Anyway with the new shock fitted the rise is just so different, not as bouncy and handles a bit better on the road.

The down side is that I can hardly touch the floor again:o:o, this will be interesting offroad when I need to dab a foot down - anyway we'll find out at the weekend Bakerville off road ride out - can't wait.
Oh bythe way I put a new set of Karoo(T)'s on this morning. They are great for the road but have very minimal depth of tread compared to other kobblies I've had. Reports so far from others are that they are awful off road but thats all they had (see my other tyre thread).

Have Fun:thumb

Looks like a good upgrade Andy, at least you've got some control over 'rebound' now!!!

The Karoos are ok off-road when they new, just be careful on the road in the wet, they're not to clever, certainly not as stable as a TKC IMO!

I don't think I'll bother with Karoos again, I trashed the back tyre in about 1,000 mile or so. Off-road just just literally ripped the knobbles off, but with this much power, I don't think anything is really gonna last very long...:(

Very Nice Andy :guitarist

Is your air shock worn out or is it just an upgrade? I'm def. in for one but just waiting for the airshock to conk out - if it ain't broke don't fix it i say.

Don't take this the wrong way but dont you think the multy couloured zip ties on your frame protection are a bit:ymca?

The standard Karoo I have just taken off was shot in about 300 miles after last years Cambrian Rally. I did squeeze a few more miles out of it though but off road the tyre just span at the drop of a hat.

I want to try Telleborgs next but my local dealer doen's get them so its off the internet.

The air shock is okay (I think). It does loose some air over time and I have to pump it up every couple of months or so. I once ratchet strapped it down on a trailer and when I went to ride the bike I could place both feet flat on the floor it had lost so much air:(

Regarding the Tie Wraps.... it doesn't look quite right does it:rolleyes: I boght a multi pack of tie wraps but need some grey ones. - good call:thumb2

Nice one T

that ohlins look good , if I had the dosh at the time I would have bought one instead of the Wilbers unit . I say you will find some difference off road , but maybe not as plush as the std unit for light poodling around , what is you next off road event .... maybe the Ryedale

Yes Andy that shock looks the bizz.Look forward to hearing how it performs off road (ie. Its ups and downs:augie)
I'm confused my self ????? what tyres to fit this time around as its been karooos so far and hope to try a more off road set this time.

Good luck with the new setup..

what tyre

HP2 Kenobe san sure havent i got a michelin enduro rear 17" for you and pick up a michelin Enduro 4 for the front and head for the dirt ( with a pair of HD Tubes and Rim locks maybe even 2 in the rear ) but once you have gone down that road no more tubeless tyres ie Karoo .

Are you not happy with your wilbers shock?

now there is a Question

am i Happy with the Wilbers

it is just that the Standard Shock is so Plus.........H floats over everything
and the wilbers reacts to the small hits but absorbs the big one's
I am looking for Nirvana and i am not there yet . My memory from past use of Ohlins is that of all the Shock Makers , they seem to have the most Adjustability ? built into the standard unit , so therefore a better chance of getting it right for yourself . and I am afraid of the Reliability of the Conti Unit as standard .... Still the Conti unit is good for Floatiing in a Barrel of Water

Your Wilbers

Which model wilbers do you have? the fully adjustable model has exactly the same range of adjustment as the Ohlins.
The basic wilbers still has 22 click rebound adjustment which should be more than enough adjustment really.
They are also built to order (your weight, riding style etc) so should be absolutely perfect.
All other manufacturers set there shocks for a 12 1/2 stone man so if your either side of this then there never going to be perfect although better than a oem unit.

Thats even worse

I am a fair bit above the 12.5 stone median you quote , I gae them my dimensions on order and I have done the High and low speed compression and Rebound , and my finding are subjective , I still think that Ohlins make a plusher unit , but the Wilbers units is good on the big hits

Hi Bud,
I agree the Ohlins are a stunning unit. As we sell the wilbers I just want you to be happy with your purchase. Did you purchase it off us?
The plushness is down to the damping which can easily be altered with a simple strip down.
If you do want to go down this road give us a ring and I'll do my best to sort it out.
