Finally got round to removing the cables yesterday, but i refitted the control unit. So all good to go now................roll on spring

That's what I did delboy, I found some rubber bungs for the cable outlets just to stop any dirt getting inside the servo unit

Yup I thought about bunging up the holes with silicone or something similar but upon taking a close look there were a couple of places where moisture could get in so I decided to leave it alone to allow for natural ventilation of any moisture that gets in there. Mistake ? don't know TBA but I'm sure time will tell
Are these cables easy to remove at the bike end? If so can they be refitted easily enough at a later date? Thinking of junking my flappy valve thingy too but would like the option of returning back at a later date if selling etc.
Although after looking down into the cat I'm not sure removing it will enhance much after seeing how restricted gas flow is by the cat prior to this valve.

Neil, I removed it because its just a useless hunk of metal that is only there to control noise......another bloody EU dictact no doubt. Also over time the valve can seize up and restrict the flow of gases out of the engine. Easily removed in about 10 minutes and easily replaced if you wanted too. Cables are very easily removed in fact you can remove them from the control unit without disturbing them at the valve end. All you need to do is remove the one screw that holds the control box in place and remove the cover ( two screws) on the back of it Replace cover and refit control box remembering to re attach the electrical cable plug to the box. Some say remove control box completely but I left mine in situ.
I don't think that's quite correct. Like all ExUp valve things, it goes some way to maintaining exhaust gas speed at low revs and therefore helps with cylinder scavenging. That has benefits both in terms of emissions and adding a few lbs-ft of torque.

Fair enough comment, and I dont doubt a word of it. You obviously know more about it than I do. As for torque once I have the PC fitted and a map tuned into it on the dyno any loss of torque should be replaced and enhanced. I had a PC3 fitted to a 1250 Bandit a few years ago and the transformation was brilliant so hoping for something similar on the Gsa.

The Yamaha EXUP valve changes the exhaust tuned length on a high revving engine boosting low revs torque. The GS flappy valve closes at medium revs to reduce exhaust noise. That can only reduce rather than increased the available torque
