Neil, I removed it because its just a useless hunk of metal that is only there to control noise......another bloody EU dictact no doubt. Also over time the valve can seize up and restrict the flow of gases out of the engine. Easily removed in about 10 minutes and easily replaced if you wanted too. Cables are very easily removed in fact you can remove them from the control unit without disturbing them at the valve end. All you need to do is remove the one screw that holds the control box in place and remove the cover ( two screws) on the back of it Replace cover and refit control box remembering to re attach the electrical cable plug to the box. Some say remove control box completely but I left mine in situ.
