hi guys,

anyone tried it or know what is required to fit a 1200GSA Ali Top Box to the rear rack of an 1150GSA...?

i imagine a little "giggery-pokery" would be suffice but any helpful suggestions would be gratefully received :thumb2

cheers

That's spooky mate... just about to ask the same question....

I've got 1200 GSA panniers on the 1150... and would like a top box...... I've a feeling it would be a bolt through job?

Oh dear

Spooky indeed. Spent about an hour last night looking for some sort of rack that could be adapted to suit. I reckon you'd need to have some way of attaching an original 1200GSA rear rack to suit the locking mechanism on the top box. I thought that it would just be a simple case of adapting a Touratech one or something, but it looks a tad more complex to me.

Tangental response ...

... but I successfully mated a Caja Sahel topbox with the standard rack on my 1150GSA using the Touratech QD mounting plate(s) kit. Needed a bit of realignment and extra holes drilling but it does what it says on the tin i.e. is QD

Not that it assists the original question in any way :aidan

I used a TT QD plate to mount a peli case to an old 1150 I had.. so that would work, but it would be a case of removing the metalwork under the 1200 box to make it flat, then bolting it to the mounting plate.....

I have done it. Used it for about 6 months, but now put the original adv rear rack back on. I will post some pics in a bit.

Basically, I used a standard TT rear rack (with the lip) and a slight modification of the grip on the bottom of the 1200 box. It did mean that it would not be an easy removal job, i.e. 5 mins with an allen key to get the box on/off but it wasn't that much hassle. You could also, unbolt the box and use the rack as intended too.

Probably clearer when I post the pics - will be up for sale soon as I don't use it.

...1200 top box on 1150GSA

morning guys,

i couldn't reply yesterday due to some site maintenance. i spoke to mate of mine last nite who also thinks it's a little harder than first thought to fit the 1200 top box due to the clamp style fit into the "correct" rack.

i could as suggested by Bryn go for the bolt on option but think i'd prefer a fairly quick removal process.

i was thinking of buying a used 1200 top box as the price seemed ok but it might just prove to be more expensive if i need to buy and then hatchet another plate.

Bryn, thanks for your offer but i think i'll hang on and keep a look out for an 1150GSA specific top box and mounting plate. i asked a dealer the price for a new one of these with the mounting plate/rack and was quoted around £300.00

do they ever come up for sale on here and if so would i be able to get one for around £150.....?

thanks for your input guys :thumb2

If you're after an 1150 ally box and mounting you may be pushing it a bit to get one for £150... the last one I picked up was £180 but not a million miles away price wise ;)

As I've got the 1200 boxes on already I reckon the 1200 top case would look good :thumb

Bryn,

I see you have the adventure back end on - My bike used the standard 1150 back, but I think the TT style plates are identical ? - The design as i have it may foul the grab handle?

I will stick some pics up shortly - got to get home and dig it out of the garage.

As mentioned - sorry for the Sh*te quality.
