Fitting A Zumo 660

The time is almost here for me to have the Adventure delivered, I've gone and bought a 660 and want to have it hard wired into the loom, has anyone done it?, Is it a pain job or simple? Can anyone give me any pointers on how to go about such a job. Thanks (Getting Excited)
 
Quite a few good threads covering this. Do a search and I'm sure you'll get loads of tips.
I took the feed for mine from the back of the aux socket.
Mounted it directly to the screen brace.

The zumo will come with everything you need to connect it straight to the battery, all you then need to do is cable tie the lead to frame under the side panels for neatness, I bought some neat little circular loop connectors to attatch the lead to the battery terminals, you just crimp them on over the zumo wires.
 
I mounted mine onto the top screen mounting bar using an Alder Enterprises mount (available on eBay), hard wired directly to the battery. I didn't want mine to switch off with the ignition.

Now sold the GSA and gone back to a standard GS. I'm using the same mount on a BMW sat nav bar, again hard wired directly to the battery.

Hi Paul, have you had any issues with it being constantly live, battery drainage etc?

I'm gonna fit mine at the weekend & was going down the direct to battery route but after reading a few articles am thinking Canbus connector.
My dealer won't supply the connector but will fit it to the loom for me.

No issues with battery, its only using (very little) power when the zumo is on the mount, it would only drain the battery if you planned to leave the zumo unnattended on the bike for a few weeks/months.
Its so easy to do you dont even need to remove the side panels as you can fish the cable through. The ram mount that comes with the zumo is all you need also to mount the cradle on the bike. If you PM me your email address I can send you a photo of where mine is located.:flag
 
touratech lockable mount might also be worth looking into. Means you can leave the bike with it still plugged in :)

Plus anti-vibration mechanisms are bound to help, it's not cheap though....

Wire it in from connector under oil cooler its sitting there ready, bmw plug fits straight in+1 for tt lockable mount

+1 TT V2 660 mount (I have mine on a crossbar)

+1 Nippy Norman 660 canbus connector

+1 wired into the canbus socket

Seems a peculiar decision to wire it direct to battery or anywhere other than the headstock canbus connector TBH
If you want it on without ignition, it has a battery. Connected top the canbus gets it started without your intervention when you fire up the bike - this keeps the trip data and fuel trip data live and accurate.

Makes utter sense to me:nenau

When mine is conneted to the headstock connector it would never stay on longer than 30 seconds, then after a couple of minutes come back on then 30 seconds later off and so on.......so now straight to the battery ... :D
 
Another method: While waiting for the kit to connect the Zumo 660 to the front accessory socket I temporarily plugged the wiring into the rear cigarette lighter-type socket and ran the cables under the seat and side panels. After two years, I haven't got around to doing Plan A and it all works fine.

Well in that instance - I fully agree - no real option. But mine seems to function brilliantly wired to headstock.
Wonder if yours was pulling too high a current(can't think why it would)

I did run a Quest that needed the stepdown gubbins in the plug so ran that to under seat and then via a cigar-din adaptor to the accessory socket - as described by JJ beneath your post, this was very satisfactory too if a little less neat.
