Has anyone fitted an Auxiliary power socket (European DIN plugs) to their V85, similar to the one shown from Motorworks? I have always found them really useful on all my BMW bikes: heated clothing, additional charger and most of all, makes it easier to connect a trickle charger when parked up in the garage.

There's not so much room on the Guzzi so I may make a small bracket rather than simply drill out one of the side panels. Thought I'd ask first. Please post a picture showing where if you have done this successfully already. Cheers

Maybe try a solution like on the R Nine T?

Robert Pandya install

This fella installed a Powerlet behind the the nearside panel of his v85tt. He started out by drilling a hole in the wrong place - but it all worked out in the end as he used that to run a battery tender cable. Neat install

Hope you can access the video (you may need to join 'Moto Guzzi v85' FB group)

There is an auxilliary port under the seat designed to connect a Guzzi USB cable, so perhaps you could use that for the socket. Suspect it won't charge the battery though.

If you accidentally fire 12v through that power port the bike’s ignition all lights up. Ooops. It’s all been fine since 😳

There’s also a socket inside the cover of the TFT with one of those superseal watertight connectors. The usb socket connects to it. I made a Y cable so the USB socket still works and I have a spare 12v power outlet up front.

Thanks Rob. Yes I can see the video. I'll have a better look later but flicking through quickly, it appears he fits an additional USB outlet (I may have got that wrong) which isn't what I'm looking for. It does appear however from pictures that have been posted in my request in other places, that it is perfectly possible to get a socket mounted in one of the side panels - as long as you're careful not to drill into the ECU or loom when fitting :D. I'll probably go with this.

Yep. It sure would! :roll

I did exactly that on my Ducato motorhome. It's a good solution. But without checking, is that supply not switched by the ignition? If so, it wont be any use for connecting the Optimiser. Unless I'm missing something.

I had something exactly like that in mind Deksawyer. But it appears there is enough room behind one of the side panels to fit a socket, albeit tight! I'll play around with it in due course when te socket arrives.

Ha! Watched the video now and it is helpful - I'd jumped straight to the end where he shows a USB plug :blast! Gives me the exact location for the socket and I'm certainly not going to make the mistake he did initially. Thanks for posting Rob.

Glad to be of assistance.
Nice part of thw world you live in - rode through there a few years ago whilst taking the scenic route down to see friends near Bristol. Lovely countryside. I've just found details of the 'Herefordshire on the Edge' rally and am now thinking I might combine that with another trip down to Bristol. Bring on summer...
Cheers
