a mate is up grding and has offered me his old sat nav.
its a bmw nav 111 (think 2820)
so, how do i fit it?
do i need to connect to the battery or is it just to the canbus plug?
do i need to use the bmw cradle or can the unit be fitted by itself using an after market bracket?
ive tried using the search function with no success.
cheers paul.

... at the mo' there's to many if's  so when matey confirms make/model then can assist.

2p of input and maybe part 1 of answer..

An early BMW Nav was rebadged Garmin and the 2610 accessories are like hens teeth, so for a rebadged 2610 the cradle was 010-10495-01 and bike power lead was 010-10495-02 and the kit with both cradle and lead was 010-10495-00 so that bit is easy to follow, finding new is like looking for hens and you stand more chance with these forum walls. If you do not have the BMW NAV cradle, then RAM-HOL-GA9 is an option and still available but you'll still need the garmin power lead, there's not alternative's that I recall.

bmw sat nav.

thanks for the reply.
some more info.
the sat nav is the bmw branded garmen that was fitted to a 2006 gs.
my mate tells me its the one after the 2610. ive had a 2610 on a bm and this unit looks the same, so im guessing its just an upgrade version, blue tooth etc.
it will be coming off a 2006gs and ill be attempting to fit it to a 2010 gsa.
im assuming it wcould just be a straight forward swap.
however i would like to do away with the bmw cradle in favour of a touratch one. is that poss. or should i just use the bm one.
paul.

NAV 1 was based on SPIII

NAV 2 and NAV 3 were based upon the Garmin 26xx, 27xx, 28xx series, so previous reply is valid as casing chassis were same. TT cradle maybe an option, Garmin cradle on second hand market, get later version with locking lever has welded studs and not fiddly screws (they worked loose and fell out, so did device :augie) or simplistic RAM-HOL-GA9 .. the power lead will be a search, for reasons already given.

TT cradle uses RAM-B-238 diamond onto underside.
RAM-HOL-GA9 also uses diamonmd base onto cradle
Garmin cradle was round base (AMPS fix pattern) so match/align four holes, and fitting onto 12GS would use shorter screws and save skin on yer knuckles when sliding out power plug, (use RAM-B-202-G1 from SPIII kit)

As GSA12 if you have the BMW?garmin cradle just plug straight into the canbus there is a plug for it around the headstock. As to physical fitting using the cradle you can attach a BMW part which then attachs to the bar across the windshield, this part also allows for the unit to swing down to be detached from the BMW cradle. Works very well and is easy to see on the go.

You get the general idea from the GSA's in this thread
