Fitting cheapo Y-piece. poor fit?

I spent all morning on here reading up on fitting y-pieces in preparation for my bargain? being delivered this afternoon. That way could get my head around any problems and find out how to reset motronic in advance, good eh?

I expected trouble taking off the cat like others have done but managed to undo all bolts and lamda probe no problem, whoopee! all downhill from here. Ahem, no. New y-piece seems to be a good 5-10mm out and will not go onto the downpipes.

Do remus ones slot on just as easliy as the original cat does? I have tried using a bit of muscle (well, got our lass on it) but sill no joy.

Did anyone else buy one of these y-pieces (saw it on this forum a couple of weeks ago) for £120? if so how is yours?

I'll ring the dealers anyway.

Dealer fitted my y-piece as the cost was more than ofset by them offering a discount. And if there were any problems eg panniers melting then, they looked upon me more favourably, I'm sure.

I fitted a Genesis can on in place of the standard end can with no problems. If the y-piece was cheap did you get what you paid for?

Sorted now, used a bit of brain power (our lass again!) and she pointed out slackening the front clamp gives the tiny bit of flexibility required. Happy again now.

The trouble is that the supplier make the Y piece too long at the back. (The outlet that goes on to your can) They do this so you can fit one of their race cans on, which I did in fact ring them up to complain about. The outlet pipe is around 2 inches longer than it should be. They did offer to chop a couple of inches off for me, but I did it myself. They have now said that all Y pieces will have a sticker on warning that the pipe may be longer than required. If I had known this in the first place, then it would have saved me hours of hassle trying to line it up. I do hope you havn't forced yours on as there may well be tremendous pressure on the bolts that hold the exhaust on at the front of the engine. You may well need to remove it and check the length of tail pipe against the original Cat. I also paid £120.00 + £10.00 postage.

The Y piece itself is of excellent quality stainless steele and I would thoroughly recommend one to anyone on this forum. It is not a cheap piece of rubbish. Just a shame they dont make the outlet pipe the right length.

Does anyone know if you need to re set anything on the engine once this mod has been done?

I did cut mine down (found a post it note with 'cut to length' amongst the packaging eventually) the silencer would then fit but raked outwards and contacted with my panniers.

Went over to see the chap, he met me in a pub carpark in his village! (he despatches these from his home). He promised to refund my card for this and the silencer. The silencer looked good quality but I had lost confidence by this point, oh and the hanging strap had been left out accidentally.

He went off muttering about my mechanical ineptitude. (I was capable of removing/refitting the cat so I should mange a properly fitting y-piece)

I would think a better idea would be to warn customers before they buy, rather than letting them buy a y piece then finding out the have to lop off a couple of inches.

Reminds me of the one about the chap who took his car to a garage in Golders Green and asked them to Simonize it. They cut 2" off the exhaust.
