Thinking about some spotlights, but I can’t get my head around the cost of the Denali etc ones when you can get similar cheap copies for £50. What I’m wondering is how easy they are to wire up? Is it possible to have them work in tandem with dipped / main beam, or is it a manual switch only.

Been thinking this exact same question myself. But the way I see it is that a hex ezecan can sort it out easily.

I bought some pretty cheap spots from ebay a few years ago for my 1150.
They performed really well in terms of their brightness, pattern, etc - really good.
Where they showed they were of poorer quality was in corrosion resistance of the brackets, and in real downpours, one would leak a bit of water. Both weaknesses were easily fixed.
Wiring complexity doesn't vary between cheap and expensive ones - if you're confident it's not hard but if not just find an auto electrician.

True, I suppose I’m really wondering if the Canbus controllers are worth the cost or if it’s feasible to get a similar result without. Quite comfortable with wiring, but the bike is under warranty
I fitted a set of Chinese running lights purchased from AliExpress to my GS LC. For a while I used them with the supplied harness which included relay, handlebar switch etc. Managed to pick up a second hand EzCan on here and now they are fully controlled via the canbus on the bike. As they are pretty bright, I have them running at 20% with the dipped beam and only at 100% alongside the high beams. I would recommend the EzCan as its pretty handy to fit and all changes are easily reversed if required.
Out of curiosity, which set from AliExpress did you go for. I have some that I got from Amazon a few years back wired up the EZcan and thinking of upgrading. TIA

They were copys of the mothership ones, came with a loom , relays etc
The loom, whilst being correct & complete, was way to bulky and was stripped and remade into a more friendly version
The spots fixed directly to my crash bars, and the feeds all run back to the seat undertray, where the relay & fuse live,
The live comes direct from the battery, and a trigger wire is taken from the dip beam live.
I lost the seperate handle bar toggle switch, as it didnt suit the application they were intended for ..
It sounds way more complex than it is / was to do,
Google helped with the wiring diagrams & relay pin outs etc

Ah yes, sorry, never had a bike with canbus so I can't comment on that.
iirc the lights would have to be canbus compatible ( sounds odd i know) to function fully
The oem lights are 3 wire i believe and this allows a canbus controller to use the dim function on the lights .
wheras cloned units are 2 wire only so some of the canbus functions cannot be used
From what remember the canbus controllers are plug and play (with a laptop)

OEM nano lights are 2 wire and work great with EZCan. I know as I fitted some to my 1250GS.

They were a tad cheaper when I purchased them (60 euro) but they are still a lot cheaper than the branded stuff. If you already have the EzCan etc installed there might be a cheaper option that doesn't include the switch and relay loom which you won't be needing anyway.
They are pretty bright so I have them mounted on the lower crash bars and pointed pretty low down. On full power they are excellent at lighting the road ahead.
Ps. The lights are two wire and they can do all the dimming functions as enabled by the EzCan....

I have the switch on the handlebar and I'm using the power out of the socket outlet next to the TFT to trigger the relay (included). So the lights turn on/off automatically with the bike... So I could actually remove the switch all together if I wanted to, but I like to have the additional control.
Light are very sturdy I must say compared to the cheaper ones I had on my hex.

I did exactly this on my Rallye TE GS, the lights from ebay £43 led two wire, GS under-beak mounting bracket £35, 1st gen Hex ezycan £120 couple of meters of 10A cable and bit of time for £210 you get really bright lights under full control and look as good as the OEM’s, and they do work night time wise just as well as the OEM’s.
