fitting GSA LC Racks to GS LC

From what I gather there is a problem with the pillion pegs and fitting racks.!!!!

Has anybody done the fit??

Clive, I have just done it the other way around, ie Removed the GSA racks and replaced them with the vario's from my GS.

You will need to fit the GSA footpeg mounting brackets, it's a very straight forward swop over, the bikes chassis are the same, you are just swopping bolt on bits. The top rack mounting holes are already threaded to take the top rack screws.

If you pop the following title into the Ebay search bar you will find a brand new set of brackets exactly what you want, however they are a bit pricey as they have the actual pegs included, you don't need these as you already have the ones from your own bike. Try do a deal perhaps....

Hi, When I bought my 1200GSW new in Spain, I specified alli OEM panniers, they ordered the racks at the same time, straight forward process. So it can be done.

Thanks for that url. Quite expensive so as I do not carry a pillion. (wife not interested) i think I may leave the GS ones off.

No doubt it will get noticed by the gs afficionados but hey its £150 for two hangers. will keep an eye open.

I got the racks and tail mount from steadysteve for a decent price and I have wolfman bags which I will use for a bit. May get an ali top box though.

I've just checked my purchase history, and I paid £60.00 all-in for a pair of excellent rear GS foot-peg mounting brackets complete with the footrests and delivery.

Keep your eyes open on ebay.

You need the GS pillion pegs for the various. But, cant the vario footpegs be used for the GSA racks? Doesn't look like the pannier rail bracket would foul the GS footpegs? I'd try it first, if there is a problem, get a set of GSA pillion pegs, or cut the vario extension bit off?

The Vario rear pegs have a lug for the side box.
The alloy tin boxes dont need this so the rear pegs have just heel guards.

I have offered up the attachment pieces for the ali boxes.

The part fits on the left side but not on the exhaust side. Due to conflict with the pillion attachment.

Cannot see that shimming it up will get it to fit.

Hi Cilive, I'm not quite sure what you are saying, could you be a bit more explicit as the GSA frames will definitely fit the GS, the bike frames are the same.

Re Crotchrocket suggesting try to see if you have clearance for the boxes before purchasing the new brackets is not a bad idea, however I don't think that I'd chop a bit of the GS pegs though, as if you decide to sell them they have the same market value as the GSA pegs that you require, so it should end up being more or less a straight swop via the help of ebay.

yes they fit alright its just the right pillion set will not go with the box attachment piece. There is a RH pillion on e bay a the moment for it so may jus tget the one and keep the set in case of change and/or selling later.

I have saved my GSA brackets to put back on when I sell the bike to keep it original.

+1 for Varios on GSA. I did the same buying GS Rear Hangers off EBay. Bought GS rack as well for Givi Box. Only use panniers once a year for foreign trips.

Can't see point of spending over 1K on Ali boxes when still have nearly new Varios that work really well and still let you filter thru traffic. Will put all original brackets back on when I eventually sell.
