Hi all,

I just fitted some Saito heated grips to my '95 1100gs.

They only have a 20w low and 30w hi option. As the instructions came, I connected them straight to the battery, and mounted the switch on the handlebar. The problem is I forget to switch them off when I stop the bike.

I was wondering if I can connect them to the bike harness plug for the oem grips, under the tank. Are they only running there if the ignition is switch on? Also, I have to put a relay in the fuse box, as the bike doesn't have one, since there were no oem heated grips installed on the bike ever.

Any suggestions?

What you really need is to find a wire that has 12 volts when the ignition is on, then use that wire to switch a relay powering your heated grip circuit which feeds direct from the battery, that way you cannot leave the grips powered when the bike is turned off, your loom might have the heated grip connector under the tank, your multimeter will tell you if theres any power there.

Do you not have any key-switched accessory sockets you can use? I had grips wired to the battery for a year and was forever forgetting to switch them off; rewired them last week to the key :thumb Worth the pain now figuring it out rather than a cold bumpstart after a night of camping....

The latest Oxford Hot Grips automatically switch themselves off when the voltage drops below a certain level to prevent battery drain,

yes, I am aware of using a relay and the method you described, but was wondering if I could use the connector under the tank for that;

or maybe I will install a dash LED that powers up when the heated grips are on, this way I will never forget them.
