Just received new odessey battery as replacement on 1150 adventure, with terminal adaptor kit fitted tank is going to make contact with terminals. Anyone had this problem, if so what is the solution???
Battery terminals now sit 1/2 inch higher.

On my 1100 I fitted the live terminal directly onto the battery. For the earth connection, I bought a short 'battery earth lead' - from any motor factor - and connected it straight to the neg terminal. I then used a nut & bolt to join to the original neg terminal on the harness down to the left hand side of the battery.

Sounds long winded but actually dead easy and finished up looking very neat. Odyssey battery works a treat btw:thumb2

Bought two Odyssey AGM batteries for other bikes. Really worth the trouble and expense. Much Higher start current ( for shorter periods) and low self discharge.

Its Gel batteries that can be a problem with their higher internal resistance the start current is lower, they are also more prone to sulphation if left for extended periods and not kept fully charged. I also connected leads to existing terminals rather than use the adapter kit.

On my R1150, the red leads connected directly to the battery without the need for a post.

The black. neg lead seemed a little too short but a tweak with a pliers to straighten out a kink in the lead had it fitting perfectly.

I've had over 6 years use from my Odyssey battery. Marvellous things in my view. Bloody expensive mind, compared to a Westco, which is where I'd direct 1150 owners now.

OEM battery in my 1150 is starting to get a little tired after 8 years. I've only seen it once, when I lifted the tank to jump-start a car that had had the interior light left on in the work carpark. Maybe they're all good?

Motorworks do a brass 'L' shaped bracket for the 1150GS and GSA - I have them on mine - they leave very little space beneath the tank so I doubled up on inslulation tape to avoid what could b a rather nasty short:toungincheek

By doing a bit of research you can find that the cold cranking amps (CCA) of the Exide gel battery is 170Amps, the cheaper Westco battery can deliver CCA of 230 amps, the Odyssey delivers CCA of 535amps for 5 seconds. How do you come to the opinion that this is snake oil???

You can't get something for nothing.
Odyssey batteries aren't made of special magic, they trade capacity for CCA by using different plate geometry. If you need more cranking amps on a standard BMW than you get from an OEM Exide then you've got other problems that need fixing before you try to mask it with an Odyssey battery. (Of course, it's a different story for high compression motors / race engines etc).

An oem gel is cheaper, has greater capacity and will start any bike with a non-knackered starter motor just fine and doesn't require surgery to fit it (or a special charger) but each to their own :nenau
