I've just got two PIAA spots from NN to replace some less effective spots. The earth wire is obvious in the previous spots - the wire is attached to the body of the lamp. In the PIAAs it's impossible to tell. Both wires go into a central block and are identical. I want to join the old wires to the new (as they are already connected to the indicator cancel switch) but I'm nervous that I might blow the lamp if the wires are incorrectly connected. Would be grateful for any advice.

It's a lamp ...

... it works by a current passing up one wire, through a filament (which glows) and down the other side, why should it care which wire you use to accomplish this task.

Now some git will come along and tell me why I'm wrong :nono

Polarity, or colours do not matter, as Mr Oblertone says, it is after all just a simple curcuit, if your stuck have a look here

Many thanks to both of you. I went ahead and they work! They are, incidentally, incredibly good lights: unobtrusive and 80 watt (from 55). Highly recommended and easy to fit.
