ok, very quick question.

I am fitting a pair of Nippy Norman's winglets tomorrow to accompany my Wunderlich Ergo screen (which has really helped with the buffeting/noise from stock screen).

The instructions look fine and having read around the topic I know the sorts of things to watch for (interplay betwen winglets and screen / power sockets etc).

The only query is the instructions say to use a 7mm drill. I am sure this is ok but before I take the electric drill to my precious beak, can someone please confirm this is correct as a 7mm diameter bit looks huge!

Cheers.

Not sure, but I guess you're right. The drill bit will be a touch wider than the bolt. Will check when I get home.

Cheers.

I fitted winglets to my 05 earlier this year and I was impressed with the difference in protection offered, so finally joined the clan!
The 7mm does initially sound large, but if you hold up a 7mm bit against the bolt and compare I think you will find you need this - I started with the 3mm as a pilot and increased from there. Don`t forget the masking tape to ensure there are no "slipped drill" moments.

Opti, I fitted the GSA winglets to my 06 GS, on the BMW ones there is a small plastic cromit that goes into the drilled hole the actual screws were 4 or 5 mm only.

So once you have the bolts in your hand check them against your drill bit.

As Bem points out it very important to use masking tape on both sides of your beak to leave a clean hole, also best to use a 3mm pilot drill first to make the job much easier. Have the drill on the fastest speed possible.

Its a 20 minute easy job. They give better weather protection and look the biz, but no noticable noise improvment I was hoping for.

What a nightmare...

I got them fitted and they look fine but my drill was hopeless. I put down masking tape, measured the holes correctly etc but the drill bit really struggled to make a clean hole and churned up lots of plastic that I then had to gauge out with a braddle! Fairly nervewracking stuff.

Anyway, they do look good though I have yet to actually try them out. My Wunderlich Ergo screen has already cancelled out all wind noise and most of the buffetting from the stock screen so the winglets only have to deal with the remnants of the little buffetting that I get at the top of my helmet to be a success. Will post an update soon.

Thanks everyone for your input.
