I never thought for one minute that is was a long time consuming job. My original question was "does any one know if you need to " I repeat "need to" Is it something you need to do after fitting a Y piece.

Thanks anyway Steve.

I'll ring Woolastons in the morning.

No. You don't need to. Depends whether you want to look like a total pillock in a couple of days time when you say it's not running very smoothly, and we all say:

TOLD YOU SO!!

:D:D:D

Spoke to Woolastons today and they say not to bother with resetting. They say the mapping software will sort it out in a day or 2 and they have never had to do this before when fitting Y pieces. I must admit I've only done 20 miles or so on it since fitting it. I doubt it will do any harm to reset anyway, so i'll do it on Sunday. The difference I noticed was that on idle, the revs were not constant like before. It seems to be hunting a litle. I also asked about oil, they recommend standard mineral 10W 40 non synthetic for the engine. Does that sound about right? I just did a search and opinions seem to vary greatly. My bike has done only 4000 miles, so I guess a semi synthetic would be ok. Thanks in advance.

Yes.

No no no. Don't use anything other than mineral oil until you've done at least 12 000 miles. You've got a lot of wearing in to do yet.

Wow!! that was a quick response. Thanks for that Steve and i'll take your advice. Thankyou.

Bunch of arse......

ADV's come as standard filled with Castrol GPS, which is semi-synthetic...and it's what the book and the dealers recommend.

Apart from one fill up in Italy when I couldn't find it, my bike's rattly bits have always been bathed in GPS, and it's worn in nicely, getting more power and smoother up to about 15k miles when it's settled down nicely, with no more noticeable improvent from then until 17k now.

As long as you don't go for the fully synthetic stuff which WILL stop it from wearing in, I reckon either GPS or a decent mineral is fine.......I'm going to fill her with fully synthetic at the 24k service, which at this rate should be just before Christmas  :D
