No rear light-he's on about te integrated indicators
Complexity of the switchgear-trying to change the heatinf, screen etc whilst moving
The looks-ok from the side, not from the front
The price-ok fair one
Gearbox/quickshifter-best ever but he still hates it
 
The switchgear one is fair. I’m sure people will memorise it over time, but trying to turn on the heated seat in the dark whole riding was an arse ache.
 
Something about the new lights leaving a dark spot ??

DON'T!! Wait at least a year until they fix all the bugs that the Beta testers are reporting!
 
I agree with him.

I would add the firm ride as a dislike, the lack of wind protection compared to my 1250, the panniers look dodgy, front - yes - fugly and whilst I can easily afford one, it is getting pricey. These things stopped me buying one which was a shame as I had every intention of doing so. Am hoping the Adventure or 1400 will be better and more of a fit for my needs.

Yes it is faster but the 1250 is plenty fast enough and I have an S1000RR for speed. I want a GS for commuting and long tours with the latter being the most important. The things I love about my 1250 are the road presence, comfort, magic carpet ride, adventure panniers and Swiss-army knife capability.

I am delighted for everyone who has gone for the 1300 and loves their new bike. But just isn't worth the upgrade for me and as I say, I am hopeful that the 1400 will have better wind protection, adventure pannier compatibility and generally be a bit bigger in stature with more road presence.
 
I'd agree with his niggles, all generally reported, but it will be the biggest selling bike this year I'd wager.

Edited - was a test ride, not a purchase.

I think I will keep my 1150 then, if TMF dislikes the 1300 so much
I haven't got backlit switchgear on the 1150 or a menu options to select heated grips...........I am sure that's not a priority and at least the starter solenoid is ok, for now
 
Sounds to me like he wouldn't bother if it was his own money as it's too expensive for what it is. 24k is bonkers really no wonder some insurers are thinking twice about it.

Agreed.
It’s stupid money.
My Tracer GT+ cost me under £13k (£15k with VAT) fully loaded.
It’s 95% of the GS for just over half the cost !!
I blame a combination of PCPs and BMW reliability.
Very few people want a modern GS out of warranty as they just know it’ll need sorting at some point.
Combine the need to change your steed every 2/3 years with the advent of PCPs which just so happen to run coincidentally with the warranty lifetime and BMW has a ready made market and have pushed the price up ridiculously.

Don’t get me wrong-I like the 1300GS, but found it too small for me.
I thought I might even be interested in the forthcoming 1400/GSA whatever.

But then I looked at the configurator and realised what TMF said-the base price of under £16k looks just about acceptable , but when you spec it up to add the niceties,its over £23k.

The GSA will probably top £25k !!

But the thing that really put me off is the fact that BMW spend millions on designing clever stuff like auto-lowering suspension then cut corners by re-configuring the heated grip button into becoming the on/off switch and causing a worldwide recall/hold on all bikes.

I’d be really pissed off if I’d spent £23k+ only to be told my bike was unrideable even before collecting it.

Yet others will simply pass this off as teething issues and ‘the BMW warranty is the best in the business”, blah,blah,blah.

There’s a reason for that-it fucking needs to be !!!
