Fixing top box on GSA in place of pillion seat

Fair enough.
Back in the day, when you looked at lightweight 250's with crap suspension and big glass fibre boxes full of crap - yep they buggered the handling. However, in our 'real world' with a lard arse GS, I think you'd be hard pressed to feel the difference between a top box on the rack and a top box on the pillion seat. I've never experienced a bike less affected by luggage / pillions etc but a riding god, I am not.

I'd rather put the top box where God intended, making it easy to get on and off the bike and leaving the pillion space free for a roll bag (or a passenger if necessary).

But, each to their own...

Another advantage would be, when you strap a tent across the back seat, it fouls the pannier lids.
This way, you could strap the tent behind the top box.

I can see the benefit of moving it......Looks really wierd though.......

Here's my son Callum, as he was setting off for France, Germany and Switzerland last year with a full complement of camping gear. It handled well enough like this for him to chase a supermoto mounted German down a back road off the B500. "How can you keep up with me on that thing...?" to quote the Deutsch Motorradfahrer.
Note that in this position, the top box also becomes a convenient backrest.... :)

Good point...didn't think of the back rest thing. If only there was some way of stopping the wind....and come to that the rain....maybe some sort of enclosure....trouble is where to put your feet when you stop....got it! Get some extra wheels to keep it upright....jobs a good'un!:hide

Happy now....?

When I tour I have an oxford tailpack on my pillion seat which contains cooking gear and other stuff which doesn't go in anywhere else, as said above it let's me strap the tent on the rear rack and also doubles up as a back rest, I don't have a problem getting on and off the bike either, I've seen many people with a large roll bag on the pillion seat as well.
