Hiya - just about to start a lot more commuting.

Anyone got a 6 speed gearbox Gen 3 FJR for under £7k? Miles not an issue, condition and provenance most important.

PM me

Have a look on the FJ owners club. They also encompass the FJR, they have a for sale area, you don't have to be a member to look. Don't be put off by a 5 speed box, they're OK. Mine returns 50+ mpg.... unless it's ridden like ya stole it 🤣
In fact, here's the link.

As @Wag says, the 5-speed is a sound buy too, as the FJR motor has enough torque & mine would easily achieve 55+ mpg on a run. The early 6-speed bikes will all have undergone a dealer rebuild, after a recall to correct the gear train weakness that emerged after Yamaha added the extra cog. They are pretty quick, will top 140 mph on the Autobahn, but don't push the front on a cold tyre.

Best go for 2014 onwards, with the electric screen. Whether you want ES is a personal choice - it's handy to have adjustment on the fly, particularly when touring, but if you intend to use it purely for commuting that may not be necessary.

Thanks gents, sound advice. It’s a flip between the FJR and a tidy R1200RT TC.

My preference is for the post 2014 ‘A’ version with standard suspension. But I have been offered a totally pampered 2018 ES for around £7k which looks tempting.

Anyway - what have you got?

All sorted - got a 2016 FJR1300A for a great price.
Well done, enjoy your summer. They're a heavy old bus, but once you're on, its a happy place to be.
