Laydeez and Gentlemuffins,

With bank holiday week approaching, and still with some of last year's leave to use up, it is time to get some miles in. I have decided, after very little thought, to do a tour of Scotland's coast. Starting in Berwick upon tweed. Hugging the coast as much as possible, keeping the sea to my right, end up in Carlisle(ish).

The must-dos are:

1) Dunnet Head

2) Cape Wrath - Can you ride there or is there, so I've heard, a minibus that can take you there. How much? Also, all along the Pentland coast line, how frequent are the petrol stations. If widely spaced, where are they.

3) Skye....when does the Mallaig Ferry run. I tried to cross on this ferry some years ago but missed by a couple of days. Do bikes have to pay on the Skye Bridge.

4) Mull of Kintyre (oh mist rolling in from the sea, my....:tosser).

5) The Burrel Collection

Does anyone know which are the good camp sites to stay in and around on this journey. Any hints and tips would be greatly appreciated as I don't have a scooby.

Up at Durness last Saturday with The Well 'ard Gang - you can't ride to Cape Wrath, but there is a minibus that takes you. The ferry to get to the bus leaves just south of Durness.

You will have real difficulty getting to the Burrel Collection by sticking to the coastline - unless it moves... Well worth the visit if you can get there, as are Glasgows other museums!

1) OK, cause you can........................

2) Yup Mini Bus only...................

3) Skye Bridge.........only Toll Bridge in Scotland where Bikers have to pay.........

Ferries run from Mallaig to Armadale or Glenelg to Kyherhea, great fun the latter..........

4) A long way to go for not a lot to be honest............

5) Pass, but Glasgow is a Take it or Leave it type of place........I'd rather have Billy Connely take me round on his World Tour of Scotland.........:D

Camp sites...........pass, don't do Canvas...........;)

If you get stuck up here, ring us...........07801 354712........... we have a plot or two where you could pitch up near Perth.

You really want to try the Applecross road whilst in the area, stunning views from the top.

Have to second Stef there as a no miss!! Been fortunate to get the view to the Cuillins of Skye from the top. You can just make them out on the horizon. Go for it :(

Flaps About...At Home

Thnaks to every one for their help.

I have now completed my journey. I shall post somne photos and a ride report as soon as I get my photos back.

Stef - I did the Applecross pass, which was fantastic.

Alte Wolf - Didn't see the Cuillnes from there. In fact didn't have time to explore the Cuillins. I rode straight from Kyle (Skye Bridge...bloody tolls...rant...grrrr...sodding crooks....more on that later) to the Malliag ferry as time was against me. I'll just have to go back there. Shame!

It was a wild and wacky journey full of rain, punctures, gay German bikers, with scenery roads to die for.

Thanks Scotland, and more later.
