Stopped tonight, waiting to turn right with indicator and brake light on. Heard a screech of brakes and smelled burning rubber.
I shot forward about 20 feet to get away. Luckily, there was nobody in front of me. I walked back to find a guy in a car sitting where I had been.
I've looked through various threads re flashing brake lights / extra brake lights.

What have people found to be useful / piece of crap / interfered with canbus or not interfered / worth the money or not.

In short, what should I consider fitting. It's a 08 1200 GSA.

Thanks in advance,

Jim.

Having had several similar experiences, and been knocked off once, I've got one of these http://www.bikevis.com/motorcycle-led-brake-light-modulators.html combined with a Nippy rear LED light. Works well, plenty of bright flashes to get the attention of the dullard.

Not sure if it will pass the MOT next month, and is totally useless for people who aren't even looking in front of them. But works on my 55 reg 1200 with spilling the canbus fluid.

Don't waste your money, if he/she is dozy and too close all the lights in the world won't help.

Harry, you're 100% right but if we can do something to alert them out of their near-slumber, it might save a life (or damage to a bike).

Thanks, Shugie, they look like the type of thing I'm looking for. :thumb2

Or instead of replacing existing tailight use the bikevis red bullets with the modulator unit.

I fitted just the red bullets (no modulator) with the bikevis brake light unit so that the red bullets brightness is dimmer for running and bright for braking.

What you need is some of these...

I had exactly the same accident once upon a time. Since then I've done a few upgrades to the rear lights.

First I went to the "design" NN LED brake light cluster which is good. Then I added the "Red Baron" LED indicators with brake light extras. Then I added the best bits...Skene P3 LED lights. Then are extra LED strips with lights which are extra brake lights, extra indicators, extra hazards, they have selectable flicker (to catch peoples eyes) and selectable flash as you brake. Passes MOT (cos you can switch it off for the test) and CANBUS doesn't mind.

Only snag is you have to get it from the US of A and they are not cheap. But has anyone gotten anywhere near me at lights? Hell no! They stay well back. And of course I have HID at the front plus fogs plus driving lights. Scooter-alike....probably.

It's much simpler, & legal.

When stopped and I see a vehicle coming up behind me, I just keep tapping the brake pedal to flash the brake lights. Both in cars & on bikes.
Works a treat.

I've seen someone drive into the back of a Highways Agency mobile crash cushion mounted on the rear of a truck.

It had six two foot diameter high intensity amber flashing lights mounted on the rear and the car driver didn't see them.

Flashing brake lights only work if someone is actually looking and concentrating on what they are looking at.

I'd definitely get a Sam Brown belt or a Hi Viz jacket :thumb

I'm with you on this one. Maybe also paint the bike white and stick fluorescent tape all over it :augie

Ah but you can be a bit clever with too. Black reflective tape from 3M.

Everyone above has a point, you cannot stop the guy who is asleep at the wheel, but for that one distracted person who needs a nudge...and anyway i mpstly modded the bike cos I like modding the bike!

Probably not canbus-friendly, but on my 1150, SignalMinder has a brake-light flash option. Haven't used that option on mine but remember seeing it on their website
