Flashing red lights on right-hand side of instrument cluster

Hi All, had rare chance for a day out on my bike on Thursday. Everything fine, but checked out the bike yesterday and the bike would not switch on. Pushing the on button did nothing. However when I looked further I noticed two.small red icons on the RHS of the instrument cluster which flashed as I pushed the button. They look like two snow flake symbols but red. Any clues please, is it the wireless key battery ?

A little later the switch did work and everything was.ok. I just need to understand what's happened so I can fix it and ensure I don't get stuck somewhere away from home!

Any ideas really appreciated.
