While on a recent trip, I made a note to ask you mechanically inclined types about a flickering Oil Light. It has only happened once since I've owned the bike so I'm hoping it was a one off, but would welcome comments anyway. The bike is an 03 GS Adventure with 12,500 miles and had just had its 12,000 mile service.

I happened to be caught in rush hour traffic, with constant stops / starts, short 200 yd hops between traffic lights and it was a hot day. The lanes were so narrow, I couldn't filter to the front so it wasn't just the bike that was getting heated - you get the picture. This had gone on for about 20 mins when I noticed the oil light flickering very faintly, but it was definately flickering. I rode to the side and checked the oil level, and it was perfect.

I'm no mechanic, but even I realise that the warning light is an oil pressure light, not an oil level light. I'm guessing it was just the constant stops that caused it - as its not happened since. Obviously if the oil is low you can top it up, but what do you do if the oil pressure is low? :nenau

Same bike here, same flickering several times...all in heavy traffic in warm weather (and once a few weeks ago in that mini heatwave even with 20/50 in it.....)

As long as it's in those conditions only, I wouldn't worryabout it ;)

Thanks Bill. Its never happened since, but I'll keep an eye on it. :thumb
