Here and there, now and then.
Can anyone recommend a flip front Lid that can be used legally whilst riding with the chin piece open and over the top of the helmet?

I wasnt aware it was illegal, but a question of how fast you can ride, before the flip gets ripped off in the wind?

The BS is for the fully assembled helmet, so all flips don't conform if up, shark evoline designed differently does conform.

Makes my neck ache anyway.

It might not be legal in some places anyway I remember getting the death stare from the Guardia in Spain

Caberg Sintesi

Quiet, excellent bluetooth kit available for it, and internal dark visor slides down when required.
Sold with the statement that it can be used legally with it open. Have ridden with one open at speeds that are illegal in this country without any issues.
Once the helmet is fully open, it locks there until tugged forward slightly.
Superb.

Legal or not I shall continue to ride in a town, when I wish, for whatever reason, with my flip front helmet flipped up!! Schuberth or Shoei ...

If I am pulled to one side and advised re my miscreant behaviour I will just suggest that "You really don't do yourself any favours, do you"

:beerjug:

IIRC my Shoei came with a notice saying it could legally be ridden with the flip up.
The BMW helmet is, however, a better helmet IMO.

Roof Boxer V8 has a good safety rating for both closed and open.

I don't know if I had a bad one, but it leaks air so good for summer use only. Other examples may be better.

Same here !!!.....PLUS, this joker had mirror shades, a serious whistle and was pointing at me with his trucheon thing......

Sort of focused my mind though......:D

I've used several makes of flip up over the last 10 years. Sat behind a decent screen I pretty much always ride 'flipped up' below 50mph. With the shield removed drag is minimal and I use good quality close fitting oakleys with interchangeable lens for eye protection. Ridden all over Europe and on bilkos last trip to the USA, never once been pulled. Corny cliche I know, but I like to feel the wind in my face and the extra spacial awareness offsets the lack of facial protection (imho). Up the speed chin bar comes down, I only refit the shield if it starts raining heavily.

Nolan helmets have the necessary EU or whatever numbers/certification to allow legal riding with the front flipped up.

i'd be less worried about it catching in the wind and getting a sore neck, than catching it while sliding down the road and breaking my neck.

having said that, i often ride flipped up.

The main problem I've found with the Evoline is getting the chin guard to latch properly if I decide to put it down(full face mode) while riding. Pushing the guard back with one hand pushes the helmet all over the place, making it uncomfy at best and, if you wear specs, causes them to sit in the wrong place. Not easy to sort out with one hand.

Other problem is that the weight of the guard when folded back over the lid causes headache pain on my forehead after about an hour or so of riding. The weight seems to pull the front of the helmet tighter at the front. No issues with turbulence behind my RT screen.
