Is there such a thing? I`ve got a ride planned next year to the south of france and with it being in late July I am expecting it to be warm :D I like the idea of a flip front lid that the chin bit removes from but is there such a thing? I think Shark do one that the chin flips all the way over to the back and also the Roof boxer does one that flips over. I`m off to the bike show next month and will be looking for a new lid so nows the time to find out more! :thumb2

Any suggestions of what to look at? I`ve got a Shoei XR900 at the moment but fancy something a bit different.

cheers

As that man says, the BMW System V does that and also has a couple of expensive bits of plastic to cover the hinge bits when you do so. The visor doesn't sit flat against the seal when you do this so if it rains the water gets down the inside quite quickly.

There is somewhere on here photographs of Mr Whatton of this parish doing the BMW off-road course with a System V sans chin piece but with goggles. I recall this because I'd just tried using mine without chinpiece and with visor and had the rain inside problem and I found myself thinking "Ah, that's how it's done."

what about a J1?

I don't think you will be that uncomfortable with a normal lid. Most people down here wear normal lids except for the Harley and scooter riders :ymca:ymca Just make sure you buy one with good vents.
Wearing an EDZ coolmax skull cap thing that you can wash everynight will keep your lid nice and fresh.

The Roof Boxer chinguard is very easily removed. I did the same a coupla years ago whilst riding down to Faro.
It's not the greatest lid in the winter, but I use it a lot for summer riding, with or without chinguard attatched.

Nearest helmet to your description I can think of is the Roof Boxer.

Take a look at their website

I have no experiance of the new helmet but some said that earlier models were a bit leaky in the rain.

not a recommendation / just for information.

i have the Airoh S4 (i think it is :o) quite similar - apart from more room inside / bigger opening / better peripheral vision and it's a solid fullface / not a removable chinbar.
MUCH prefer it to the Arai Tour X i had before it. but i only wear a fullface when training riders. the radio gear suffers less with a fullface. ANYhow - lovely, comfy, light and rather good looking... bit like meself. :D
had another look at me own link - if you've a chin like Brucie Forsyth.... it aint gonna work!

Thanks for the replies lads :thumb2
I rather like the look of both the Roof Boxer and Givi helmets. Hopefully they`ll be an agreeable fit on my head so I`ll be able to choose from more lids out there.

now you've narrowed it down...:)
had a Roof;
nearly / but not a brilliant lid. heavy, crude and non removable lining.
BUT the new model is improved - how much? - dont know.

Mrs Og. has a Givi open face - very similar construction to what you're looking at.
Excellent all round. Very Well Made.

hth.

I've got a Givi Xo1 which, while it isn't a flip lid, does have a removable chin piece.

You can run it as a jet helmet with no front (ie open face) or in summer mode (big gaps) or winter mode (full face chin piece with no gaps)

I'll get around to doing a proper review soon, but I've had it for three months and in that time it's been to Slovakia and back and around Morocco, so it's had a good testing and I would recommend it :thumb2

can't find pic of it in other modes but here it is in jet mode....sorry about the ugly fekker wearing it :D

Phew Bill, how long have we waited for your review.

I'll be intrigued to know what it's like in wet weather, and how noisy?

Should have worn it in full face mode, something ferkin ugly has hit yer mouth and chin area:augie

Whatever it was, it must have been old, it seemed to have a white tail.:hide

You wouldn't have thought there were many ginger girls over there would ya :augie:augie

How unlucky can you be :D:D:D

Any ideas on the price of System 5 side pods to convert to jet helmet???

Bum:(

Despite being the same size as my old Roof 010 this one is too tight and will have to go back. They don't have the next size up, large, bugger.

Johnnyboy, the Shark Evoline Fusion Mat VIS seems to be turd brown!
