hey just wondering about a flip up helmet with a comms system fitted. that is ear pieces and microphone that are part of the helmet. I dont want a blue tooth just a good old fashioned one with a cable to plug into a radio. blue tooth would be nice but not neccessary.
its for motorbike marshalling.
any ideas?

cheers.

I have a flipfront Shoei, used with an Autcom (non-Bluetooth) and a Kenwood bike-to-bike radio.

It does what it says on the tin and it works, well.

Good customer support from Autocom, too. Either via this site (GSRich) or direct with them in Warwick.

System 5 + Autocom

BMW System 5 + Autocom works well for me with the front up or down

Only thing is to make sure you get the noise reducing foam cover for the mike for when the lid is up otherwise you do get a bit of wind noise

I do find I have to replace the mike section every 18 months as the foam rots away

Or just read the last Ride Magazine comms review and see how poor BT helmet or comms are. I would aslo NOT recommend a BT set up for bike to bike as you really struggle for range.

A simple lead from your helmet down to your bike works wonders and will over come all of the many problems surrounding BT headsets and comms.

You could try a Nolan N103 n-Com which is a bluetooth enabled helmet or this

plus this bluetooth-enabled radio

You could give Midland a call and find out what helmets work well with their radios.

Hope this helps.

I do agree with what GS Rich said above about wired systems.

My reply is based on my imagining you standing 20 feet away from where you have safely parked your bike, marshalling the motorcycles with your helmet on your head and a blootooth-enabled radio in your pocket. The radio might have a range of a mile or two depending on the terrain.

If you don't actually get off your bike to do the marshalling then consider a wired system.

have used Autocom with a variety of lids including a Roof flip up for instructing.
as said,
take care of the foam mike cover / replace at the first sign of damage.
otherwise - simply the best. :thumb2

In one.

The simplicity of the cable wins out, for sure. :thumb2

Just returned from a week in France, me and the better half's first 'biggy' on the GS, fitted an Autocom 200 duo prior to going, used with our recently purchased Caberg Justissmos (his 'n' her matching!!:augie) Both seemed to compliment each other - the Autocom and Caberg not me and the missus! Crackin pieces of kit, clear conversation and could hear the MP3 no probs, even with front flipped.

Works well with bmw system 4 and duocom since 2002, waiting for the system 6 to wire new harness into the new helmet.

works great with chin peace down or removed.

I must say the new extension lead from autocom to allow in-ear speakers is Aesthetically "PANTS". It is the same "box" as the bluetooth dongle.

Autocom won't win prizes for beauty, functionality over form comes first I think, very opposite to the apple ipod philosophy.

Starcom - have used one for 4 yrs. no major issues. Pillion to pillion, music, bluetooth to Zumo. Easy to install and maintain. Great product.:)

+1:thumb

I use Starcom with a Shoei Multitech and no problem. More than loud enough for i-pod and a phone which I run through a Zumo:thumb2

We have just bought two Schuberth C3's and installed our 5 year old Starcom units, they work extremely well, and the C3's are sooo quiet:thumb.

The only slight niggle is running the cable to the chin piece microphone, as you have to allow some slack to open the flip front. This has been overcome, but you have to allow a little more slack as the cable has to go around the internal sun visor.
