flip up helmet?

Good point, but the Evoline is the draftiest helmet I've ever used..

My last 2 helmets have been evolines. Last year in a French heatwave....40 degs.... I appreciated every bit of draft there was, but despite the draft still had misting up issues.....hopefully the new Evoline One has dealt with these issues. I think the Shark is the best compromise there is....and a flip front is always going to be a compromise. Mines back most of the time, but its handy to have the bar for shitty weather. For me....best helmet I've had.

Threads still in the wrong place!

Ah , sorry . the good thing is that its beautifully integrated and the functions work well.
The snag is when you turn up for a group ride, perhaps a riding holiday .... and everyone can talk to each other , but you can't join in.

The SRC will only connect to a SRC. Buy a SENA if you want to join in with your riding buddies.

Not true the SRC is made by Cardo Scala and can pair with other Cardo Scala sets.
Anyway. Stop chatting and ride. You can chat when you stop for a brew.

Latest Senas apparently will link to other makes but not tried it.
For me, the SMH10 was one of the best purchases I and my mates have made, it means we can ride safer with information from additional pairs of eyes, advising on hazards or passing opportunities.
It also means that we don't have to race to a destination before having a chinwag and we don't have to resort to hand signals for piss stops or detours.
+1 for he Evoline, great helmet, not the quietest but even with plugs, the Sena copes well.
It does mist up a bit so next one may have to include a pin lock.

Have a look at the new Sena 10U for Shoei Neotec.
Might be the combination that will work for you.

This thread cost me money! I got a great deal on an Arai CT Ram £340. Open face for the summer and full face for the winter, happy days....

How do you change the helmet to full face ? Or do you mean you have a full face helmet for winter ?

Yeah, sorry, I'll use the Ram (now discontinued in the UK) for summer, and another Arai full face for winter - no point using an open face in winter.

I bought the X-Lite 1003 in November at the bike show, complete with the BX5 fancy electronic ghizmo for Radio 2, Radio 4 and the telephone answering ability.....the helmet is actually very nice, more comfortable than the Schuberth it replaces (partners) BUT I have yet to be able to use the BX5 because the first one was totally goosed at the motherboard, they fitted a new one when I went to Kettering to HQ - I was going that way anyway.....it lasted about 30 minutes. It was working on the bench, by the time I came to go home from the workshop, the new, replacement had died as well. I am still waiting for the next consignment to come in for number 3. Hopefully this one will work - 3 months is a long time to have had something paid for and it not work. To be fair, they have been very good at TRYING to provide customer satisfaction, but the equipment has let them down.

Even with this experience. i wouldn't have anything from Scala ever again. I had a G4, again purely for the radio really. They have obsolescence built in and ZERO customer service. They really were, "we don't repair any. Buy a new one" when I went to see them about getting mine fixed. They actually expect you to upgrade every 2 years, so there are no spares available, other than from donor units, to be able get your kit fixed. Terrible company attitude. I would rather go without than deal with them again.

As with anything helmets .... A good brand that fits properly is the only way to go. The brands you are considering all seem to fit that category.

My "scone" and all brands except Shoei just don't seem compatible so the decision is largely taken out of my hands.

You are very lucky to have a real choice in that respect so go with the best you can afford.

After all... What price do you put on your head?

I got my GSA TC last year - first bike I've ever had with a screen! I got a lot of wind buffeting and noise until I changed to a Givi airflow screen. Now it's brilliant. I've used Roof helmets for years but bought the Shark Evoline (new bike new helmet) and I always use in open face mode unless it's pissing down. No helmets fit my head either (oval Scottish head) so I had to trim the white stuff from behind the forehead lining until it was comfortable. I never use ear plugs either but I find it fine.

Having had several System helmets, a MultiTec (still my favourite) & a Nolan (great helmet for the money) I bought a Caberg Duke the other day. One of only 5 flip helmets that achieve 5stars in the Sharp test it comes with a Pinlock, sun visor & dual homologation.

Used it for the first time last weekend and, after 700km, I have to say I'm really happy with it. Might even have a new favourite :thumb

Apologies for my first post being a question (and from an RS rider too!) but I have just bought an X-Lite 1003 and BX5 package and can't for the life of me figure out how to fit the BX5 to the helmet. The instructions are next to useless, the video on the Nolan site (for a BX4) shows that you need to remove the polystyrene cheek pieces in order to fit the battery etc but the helmet instructions specifically state DO NOT remove the polystyrene pieces - and indeed they do not feel very "movable". Also I can't see any obvious "hole" for the microphone screw - is that hidden under the polystyrene?

I'd be grateful for any advice on this and especially if it is necessary to remove the polystyrene pieces how do you do it without breaking them?

I hope this doesn't sound twattish, but are you sure the BX-5 kit is suitable for the 1003 helmet ?
Reading the sales blurb, IIUC, the 1003 helmet requires the BX 4 PLUS communications system.

Just for a laugh, I've read through my BX5 instructions and I cannot find any reference to the 1003 helmet :nenau
FWIW, I found the fitting instructions a nightmare, too.

Well Helmet City are selling the 1003 + the BX5 as a package, and the Nolan n-com website says that they are compatible....

The Nolan video is for the BX4 and shows - correction, doesn't actually show, just mentions them - the polystyrene pads being removed by pulling "up" - but of course "up" depends on where you are starting from  This is typical of their "instructions" it seems to me. You don't mention if your helmet needed to have these pieces removed but the 1003 manual contains a dire warning not to do it.

My helmet is the X-lite 551, with BX5 system - not really any help to you. I had to remove the styrene pads for the installation; admittedly tricky, but managed it.

The following has been lifted from HelmetCity sales blurb....

No help now, but I'd have asked Helmet City to fit it, I'm sure at West Bay they would have offered.
