Has anyone used these stainless oil filters in their TC? I was sent one by accident from an flebay supplier (ordered some jubilee clips?!?) and it looks like its compatible. Trying to decide whether to keep it or flog it on. Looks like they're about £70 or £80 :o

I think I'd flog it and keep using the disposable paper filters

How can you be sure every single micron of debris, has been washed out of the SS filter

Flog it. Using pattern oil filters is a mugs game, unless you are 100% sure about match to manufacturer specification.

Used them on WR250 some time ago ...washed them out with brake cleaner...very common for off road bikes..not brave enough to try on my GSA.

found a lot in marine, generators and truck applications where changes are frequent, but these guys use proper cleaning baths maybe ultrasonic and its as much about cost and waste disposal reduction as owt else

as has been said any advantages are probably minor given the cost of a throw away filter (non OEM!) and the risk of not cleaning them out well

Normal paper element oil filters filter down to 20 microns when new but get better as the pores clog up. Many truck and heavy plant engines have ultra fine bypass filters. They carry only 10% of the oil flow but extract the sub micron particles that are normally let through by the average 20 micron full flow filter.

The ultra fine stuff is more harmful to the oil than the engine but knackered oil wont do the engine much good.

Engine oil basically does not wear out but contaminated oil can't do it's job. So has to be changed.

If we had sub micron bypass filters on cars and bikes we would hardly ever need to change the oil. Just change the filters and top up the oil level. But they'd never be washable the trapped particles are just too fine to wash out.

BTW a GS Adventure has the perfect slot under the petrol tank for a remote mount oil filter. Replace the oil cooler pipes with braided hoses and include a parallel branch to the remote oil filter. Only snag is getting a sub micron filter small enough to fit the space.

Why bother(?) oil changes don't cost much per mile.
It's only my opinion but oil that stays clean protects the engine so much better than stuff loaded with a few thousand miles of soot and metal rubbings.
