Long shot this one maybe but nothing ventured ...

Bought a trailie at the weekend (Honda CRF230F) and it only came with a (non standard) FMF Q (the Q stands for quiet I'm told) pipe. Like a plonker, I didn't check if the zorst is road legal and kite marked/BS stamped. Anyone know?

The insurance co need to know and I'm working away, so can't check the bike. I couldn't sort the insurance before buying cos the insurers were closed. I can't go from last year's MOT either as it's not due a 1st one until this July :blast

I run an FMF can on my GSA and it isn't stamped anywhere. They are US made cans and I'm not sure there is an official importer so they may not be designed for us over here.

I had the same with my son's DRZ that had an unmarked FMF pipe... loud as hell it was. I chased down the manufacturers and they said their pipes were not road legal so it had to go. Got near enough my money back on ebay though :thumb

You can contact Performance Pipes here who sell them in the UK...

Oh poo. I don't like that answer - can I have another ? :D
How do u go on at MOT time (do cans need a kite mark or BS stamp to pass?) ?

You used to but not any more. Nowadays the tester just needs to be satisfied that any exhaust isn't substantially louder than a standard system.

However, the provisions of the Constructions and Use section of the Road Traffic Act are entirely different. You could pass an MOT with an unmarked can fitted and be nicked shortly thereafter for having an exhaust that isn't E-marked or have the BS AU 193/T2”, “BS AU 193a: 1990/T2” or “BS AU 193a: 1990/T3 mark.
