Installed a unifilter foam filter a month ago, since then have done about 500ks on dry dirt roads like these.

The filter comes with a pre-filter that fits over the air intake snorkel as below.

The main filter looks like this.

After washing the filters I found 90% of the dirt was caught by the first filter and none got into the air box. Definately a good thing for those doing dusty roads.

Check it out.

Unifilter in Oz.

Hi Bike Tart
What exhaust system you using? Any probswith fueling? Running lean etc?
harry

Harry,

I am using the standard exhaust and no obvious problems with lean/rich running. I believe the EFI would deal with this issue. Subjectively I recon' there is slightly more bottom end tourque and maybe it spins up a little quicker. (could be wishful thinking on my part).

I heard that if you use a K & N filter, that it affects your warrenty...........

Spoke to me dealer (bike that is) about the warranty issue, he reconds no problems as long as there is no evidence of dust entering the motor. If in doubt slip the original in prior to service.

We are planning a trip into outback aussie in July which will kill a standard paper filter (especially if fall over during river crossing), so need a foam filter. I imagine BMW expect some riders to do this and are cool with it.
