I recently replaced cat with y piece and had to put a lambda sensor in as original was well stuck in cat. To get to sensor I moved tank back a few inches, replaced lambda then returned tank to correct place. I started my bike, now the fog and aux lights don't work? Help!

My battery was totally flat so I recharged before starting. Don't know if this is relevant? All fuses ok.

Cheers. Steve.

What bike? Are the lights after market? Have they got inline fuses? Have you checked those?

Do you have a Digital Multimeter?

Obviously check that the connections to the relay are all on securely, then check if you have permanent power to pin 30......use the continuity function of the DMM to check you have a good earth at pin 85, then the DC voltage test to see if you get 12v acting as a trigger to pin 86.

You should also get 12 OUT from pin 87 when you get 12v IN to 86.(and the relay should click at the same time as it throws over)

From that, you should be able to work out exactly which part of the circuit isn't working.....EG if you have a permanent live to 30, a good earth and power from your switch or trigger wire TO pin 86 but no voltage OUT from 87, the relay is probably fubared, or at least stuck closed.....giving it a tap can often free them up but they are only a few quid to replace so that would be the better option if the relay is sticking.

It's an 1150GS. I think the lights are aftermarket. Fogs wired into long press on indicator cancel and aux lights are on full beam. The fuses are fine I think relay could be stuck. Thanks Fanum I'll get on it tomorrow and report back.

Sounds like you have the auto switch installed for the fogs. This is usually installed in the fuse box as it cuts into the cables in there. There is usually an associated LED to show when the circuit is switched in too. It might be worth taking the top of the fuse box to see the insides and you'll probably see the switch and maybe trace the little LED from it too.

I do have an LED to show when the circuit is on, this is mounted on the dash. No autos witch in fuse box though. The relay for the fogs switches on and the LED lights up green but still no lights. Could my bulbs have blown. Seems odd that the aux and fog bulbs all blow together?

I reckon it's difficult to diagnose without knowing exactly how these are wired up but if you have relays, then just test the input (looks like this is good if the LED is on) and the output side and take it from there. No offence but are you sure the thing you're looking at isn't the autoswitch rather than a relay? It doesn't have to be mounted in the fuse box after all. My Aux's are on a separate circuit to the battery but switched in via an autoswitch.

Sounds like the other set is wired in with the main beam direct - not with the indicator cancel? Probably has a relay somewhere. Is there a load of extra wiring under the tank? Have you taken the tank off completely to take a look?

It is possible that the bulbs have blown, but highly unlikely unless the wiring is done poorly and they aren't protected by a proper amperage fuse.

Use the CONTINUITY test with your digi multi meter, put one probe onto one prong of the bulb and the other on the other terminal (it doesn't matter which way around) and you will know instantly if the bulb is ok or not.

I reckon your best bet is to run the bike into Chris Tunnbridge (TunnerUk) and he will be able to work out what's going on fairly quickly.......

As long as you know how a circuit should work, it's easy to pinpoint where it's NOT working using a DMM (assuming the hole loom isn't overly wrapped in S-A tape or something)

Here ya go.......he's not far from you :) (Maidstone, just off the M20)

Yes he sounds like the best option, thank you. I am clearly out of my depth on this one.
