Good evening folks,

My gsa only drops two boxes on the fuel guage and never show less than around 280 miles range on the computer (normally on reset after a fill up around the 430ish mark). This is exceedingly good news, however having already gone 240 miles on the tank I think it very unlikely that I've got a range of 540 miles !!

Obviously, I just use the trip meter and fill up when I hit 280 miles or there abouts.

Is this an easy fix, ie cheap and quick, or more a live with it and carry on riding ?

Thank you kindly.

PS For all the pedants, I know it is spelt fuel !

What age bike, there are different fuel senders dependent on age. I think your sender is probably knackered though but if it is the float type maybe it is getting hung up. If it is the strip type then it is probably knackered and needs replaced. Search the forum for fuel strip and you will soon realise how useless it is.

Aug 2007 gsa.

From what I can see most failures relate to not working/reading empty.

Mine sort of works, I'm wondering if it needs recalibrated as the seals were just done under warranty.

This is more bugging me than end of the world stuff.

There does "seem" to be a German sense of humour after all......

It's the strip type and it is broken. I had 3 fail but none of them showed empty all the time. Two of them were just all over the place and one of them was like yours only it went down to about quarter tank.

Recalibrating was something BMW dreamt up but it never fixed anything for any length of time.

I always found the mpg figures to be very accurate so a quick bit of arithmetic will get you a decent range figure.

You say you had something done under warranty, do you still have extended warranty?
If so you should be covered for a new fuel strip, if this has started since you had the recent warranty work I would have a word with the dealer anyway,
Btw, I'm now on my 5th fuel strip.

Sadly not, There were two outstanding bmw warranty matters; the rear flange and also the seal for the fuel pump. I bought the bike down south.

The amount of things that needed done, according to local bmw dealer ran to two pages and ended up costing me £1,200.

I'm starting to tart my bike up the way I want it to be. It was probably like this when I purchased him, but it is proving it.

Life is too short, unless you're a dwarf !

But thank you for the thoughts, it is appreciated.

If it's a fuel strip zap it with a piezo lighter and see how it goes.

Sent via iPhone so expect strange words

Hi Tractors, I have repaired my 2010 one using the piezo method that Bendy is talking about, if you're up for a jaunt over to the Kingdom feel free to give me a buzz and I could give it a go, only takes 2 minutes and it resurrected mine which had failed and kept reading empty, was over 4000 miles ago and still working fine, touch wood.
