Apologies if there is a similar thread or if this have been covered previously.
I've noticed that one of my passenger foot pegs was missing. On inspection of the other, I noticed that the circlip was missing and that the base of the pin had retracted about half way through the lower hole. I pushed it back through, expecting to see a tighter fit in relation to the recess for the circlip, but there appears to quite a lot a travel on the pin.
I had a look at the rider foot pegs and although everything appears to be in place, the pin had risen, the circlip is there and I was expecting to see a washer of sorts on top of the circlip.

The bike is less than 6 months old and I don't really expect to find bits falling off. Any guidance, is of course appreciated.

There was another bloke on here asking a similar question...:augie

Just popped out and had a look, just the circlip is the norm here.
Slack circlips?

I experienced a similar thing, almost new bike but covered in dirt. Giving it a good clean and clocked lack of circlips. Footrests didn’t fall off though.

Could have been me - problem eventually traced to the 'C' type circlips not being 'springy' - when they are pushed on they prise open to fit into the pin slot BUT don't then spring shut!! I think the circlips have not been tempered (if that's the correct word) correctly, i.e. soft, not springy.

It happened a couple of times to me, so once the circlip was in place, I squeezed it tight with a pair of pliers.

Everything you need to know about circlips: )

My rear circlips were reported missing at the last MOT at main dealer…I bet it took them longer to write that up than it would to have replaced them but hey. The fact that they spotted it would indicate to me that they look for …which means it not unusual. I fitted some and they are still there.

Fixed now, the pin is a lot shorter than the original pin (roughly 10mm shorter) and looks like how it should look. The rider pegs pins are too long IMO , so have taken up the gap between the circlip and peg frame with an elastic band. Overall, not happy about this, as you pay top dollar for these bikes and quality control seems to be a bit lacking in this instance.

One normally notices the pin rising up and protruding on the top side far more than looks right when the circlip goes missing - you would normally notice it before the foot peg falls off.

Just noticed, both of my circlips have gone walkabout, thankfully noticed before the pegs went bye byes.

15+ years of GS ownership and I’ve never had a foot peg try and dismount of its own accord :blast

I’m glad I’m not the only one, first noticed it some months ago - the problem appears to be with the circlips not being manufactured with the correct material or not being hardened correctly - they aren’t ‘springy’, they deform as you fit them but do not spring back.
