Footrest hangers-1150GS to 1150R???

My mate in Oz needs to know asap whether he can fit 1150GS footrest hangers to his 1150R

The pillion hangers are welded onto the GS edit see what you mean though

Same gearbox casing and subframe so should fit. I believe that Paul Young was considering fitted R hangers to his GS some time ago so it should be possible. I remember seeing a rennkuh Rockster based oilhead special using GS hangers but can’t find the pic.

Out of interest, and because I can't resist fiddling, what's the perceived benefit of fitting R pegs, hangers etc to a GS? Does it alter the foot position/height significantly?

Lowers and pushes the pegs forward to give a less cramped riding position for the long legged.

I think you misunderstood my question - I asked what the benefit was of fitting R parts to the GS whereas you've told me the benefit of doing the reverse!

Kind of answered above really but R footpegs on a GS are effectively rearsets. Pegs are raised and moved backwards slightly. I’ve got these fitted to my Rockster\GS hybrid with GS seat. Makes for a sportier riding position with the trade off being comfort. If I keep the bike I’ll probably end up with GS hangers.

There is a post on the R1150R forum that you may be interested in, and able to advise on.

One of the chaps there is looking at making his rockster more off road friendly, I had suggested that he fit GS front forks, trailing arm, wheel and spring / shock unit. At the rear end fit the GS wheel, torque arm and spring / shock unit. Also fit the GS side, centre stand, footpeg hangers and add some alloy panniers to the mix. I have often pondered on the feasibility of turning my R1150R into an R1150GSR.
What mods have you made to yours?
