for farkles sake..... Handlebars

Fair enough though I'd have used a pipe cutter to at least score the bars for cutting or maybe had some steel bar end weights turned by a local engineering workshop.

Aye, both of them methods would work but they'd cost you more, cutting the weights were quick and easy plus the weight act as your measurement guide

Looks like the original hand guards and fixings fit ok as well?

Yeah OEM handguards, modded bar end and the sliver spacer/collar go back on. you dont use the oem bolt though. i used the M8 S/S countersunk 90mm with spreader nut. The spreader sticks out about 4mm from the bar end as it dosent fit inside (there wider at the root) but this gives you clearance for the throttle anyway. they tighten right up so theres no play in the guards to dont worry about that

All in it was 70 quid for the fatbar, 2 quid for the two M8 bolts and two spreader nuts
took about two hours all in because of painting back up the bar ends

fitted a slipscreen last night so going to test that today

You said in 1st post :possible less buffetting in bad winds, less of a input effect from the body/arm getting blasted ?

So fitting a short screen does that not defeat the objective ?

I tried the bike with no screen but the wind blast would keep me well under 70. The Givi AF-330 pretty much solves the buffeting though wind noise is still quite high.

what ive found in the past on different bikes that buffetting is noramlly caused by your upper body being in turbulent air so thats why im currently testing a smaller screen (only cost me 30 quid). Went out yesterday and found that theres alot more wind on you but its cleaner air, more noise but less of the helmet/shoulder wobble, however only did a few stints at motorway speeds.
Going doing an all dayer today to see how i feel after 300+ mile.
Like i said just testing things out before i head off to spain in June.

Yeah ive heard some good reports on the givi air flow, if i dont get on with the slipscreen thats my next option, had a MRA on a rallye a few years ago and found that ok but will be trying the givi next.
Not bothered much about the noise it's just the buffetting that pisses my off

I had a V-Strom for a while standard mirrors have to be changed to Aprilia ones, their notorious for bad buffeting if I'd've known I would have tried one before buying  alas sold in less than a year 2000 miles !

In my opinion standard screens are too flexy aftermarket are always thicker which is why OEM crack around mounting holes, the vario is a good screen had one on a tiger & my 1st GS but by far the best is the deserto I have now it has infinite adjustments & incorporates side wind deflectors,I suppose its down to how tall you are & the preferd way you sit that determines what works best good luck :)

I would love the deserto setup, looks great on the bike, big money though arnt they?
Agree with you about the OEM screens, way to much flex in them

Well ive done about 250 mile today with the small screen, gotta say am impressed, still need to adjusted the bars a little for the wrist angle but there seems to be alot more feel on the front, so far so good:thumby:

My adventure screen cracked at the mounts but was bad for turbulence. A wunderlich adventure style was about 2" taller but little better for buffeting. Tobinators helped a bit more but the Givi pretty much solved the problem.
I still get buffeted on motorways but that's traffic turbulence. Only fix for that is a car.

Pic of it finished off, still undecided about handguards :nenau
