I'm refitting my forks after changing the steering head bearings. When I took the off the top of the forks (bottom lip of the cap) was just about level with the top of the yokes. My Haynes manual is for 2006-2010 models but that gives a height of 7.8mm above the top of the yokes. That is roughly where BMW have kindly marked a line on the forks, as it happens.

I don't want to murder the handling so I don't want to fit them 8mm out but I'm quite willing to believe that the last time they were fitted (by a BMW technician) they were put in the wrong height.

Anyone got a 2012 F800GS could have a quick look and see how much above the yokes the forks go on their bike?

Cheers

As far as I am aware, the 8mm line is where they should be fitted. That's where they were on mine (2012) and it handled fine. You will see a lot of 800s with the top of the fork level with the yoke, but I think that's just because not all BMW mechanics know they should stand proud of the yoke.

Top Yoke

I dropped mine by 1/2" and it did not impact on the handling anyway negatively.

Gave me about 1/4" lower height at the seat which I was looking for.
