I am sure that a few months ago someone started a thread about carbon look a like fork protection which was very cheap and wrapped around the forklegs to give protection. Can anyone remember where the stuff was purchased from. I seem to remember it was under £20.

Thanks in advance

Paul young is the man, he gives details on the Pyramid huggers cheap thread in the Equipment and toys forum.

Try searching for Fork legs.

Hope that helps

Andy,
you can get sheets of carbon/kevlar type stuff for making tank pads, I thought about getting some myself for this purpose.
I think you can get it for about 10-12 quid from M&P or MPS,
or from your local bike emporium.
There was a thread somewhere about using fork protectors for mountain bikes, you could always have a look in halfords.

They come in different sizes and the make/model list doesn't include the 1150GS (unbelievable?!!). The size needed is 52mm and I think this is the size which fits the YZ250. Check by measuring the bottom grey part of the fork leg and then phone the order through, rather than ordering online. Another useful tip is to place something behind the protectors where the fork leg is blue. I have used some 3mm neoprene sheet I have and just cut out a rectangle to wrap inside the protector. This holds it rigid along its full length, absorbs some part of any impact and stops any chaffing.

HTH,

Paul

Any chance of a shot of your fork legs taken from the side/rear (sounds kinky !) ??

I'm curious to see how the covers fit round the cast protrusions at the rear of the fork leg. DO you need to do some cutting and chopping ?

Cheers

Alex

No cutting req'd as they are open at the back. You flex them open to put them onto the leg. I have put phot's onto the original thread so , if you do a search, you should find them OK.

HTH,

Cheers Paul,

I think I will follow your good example for the winter. The council love salt where I live.

neoprene covers

for the upper fork leg above the cross brace. i have found neoprene and spandex seat belt covers as used by boy racers are excellent. they are cheap £4.50 a pair thus disposeable. foam backed and fasten by velcro, they are available in all colours and fit the upper staunchion perfectly. Any second rate car accessory shop sells them.

I've seen a 2 year old GS with very bad corrosion on the forks and crossbrace so I good idea me thinks.

and why are the sods still using salt, there has been cheaper more effective alternatives (non corrosive) around for years.

I read once that in Sweden, they use some form of Cheese on the roads to melt the snow ??

Could get messy
