Fork Oil Level?

Just in the process of changing my fork seals and would like to know approximately how far from the top of the fork leg does 485cc of oil come. I know I don’t need to change the oil but would just like to check before putting back together. Steptoe has mentioned 3, 4, or 5, inches? Is this from the top of the leg where the dust seal sits?

Has anyone changed the oil recently and happened to take a measurement/noted the distance the oil comes to.

The oil isn't used for damping. It's there for lubrication purposes. If you can see it a few inches below the top of the fork leg don't worry.

I ordered a seal puller for this job some time ago from EBay.
Seal puller
Works great.
Some of my friends may think I am a specialist and know something when I have those fancy tools.
