nice find, a very good trick. Im sure you could make the tool from an old coke bottle. If it didnt work no harm done as the seal is obviously FUBAR.

Someone asked me why i had a tampon in my toolkit
lift the dust seal, stuff in small (inch or so) cut sections, replace dust seal.
... and it works.
