Morning Folks.

I’ll hold my hand up and admit I’ve just put a fork seal in upside down. I’ve a seal puller, what’s the chances of just pulling it out turning it over and it still being ok? Before I order another one.

Thanks

John

The problem with your query is that the person most likley to really know has never done it :ROFLMAO:

My guess is a slim chance it will be OK. I say this because I had to dig out a newly installed seal without a puller because I left something out and it didn't work well. Oil pissing everywhere.

Now if you could post a pic of correct way up and mistake not to make that would be great because I am doing the job again soon and need all the help I can get. Good luck.

Do you still live in Wensleydale John? We’re in Bainbridge.

Replacements are cheap (I paid under £10 a set but can see they’ve gone up to around £12 now) and easy to fit, so I’d just chalk it up to experience and fit a new one TBH…

On the Bay or Wemoto as well...

This is the same as Steptoes but with pictures

To seat the seals I couldn’t find a socket big enough so after rummaging around B&Q found a pipe fitting that was the same outside diameter as the seal and it worked a treat to push it home.
For reference B&Q barcode says it’s a WS08 40mm white coupling but the manufacturer stamp says Floplast 43mm WS08.

I’ve ordered some new ones, saves messing about again.

Here’s an idea… try it and see.
It’s literally only a 10 minute job, What have you got to lose, apart from a dribble of fork oil ..

Entertaining video on fork seal replacement. It’s an RT, but gs is just the same

“Just the same” apart from you have to remove the separate handlebars on an RT.

There’s a write up in the “1100/1150 info and tips” sticky at the top of the technical section.. the pictures have disappeared over the passsge of time but it’s so simple that following themwritten text is enough to get the job done.

If memory serves me well then the cheaper we Moto ones only have a single spring whilst the OEM have two

I fitted the cheaper ones, they seeped, so went OEM and they sealed fine…. OEM about £30

Steppers will correct me if I’m talkin* shite

Feck that, I’d rather save a couple of quid fitting inferior seals on my bike that’s worth ££££’s ..

I did and it worked fine. Thx.

Take a look at the seal you’re removing, it’s a very big clue of which way is correct
Ah ya see you say that but what about if the guy that replaced it the last time was a numpty like me and put it in upside down? :ROFLMAO: 🤷‍♂️

But really if I have to look at something and try and figure out what is the right way because it can go in two ways it's good to have all the pointers.
