Fork Seals

Screenshot 2025-04-22 at 17.00.36.png

Here are two identical seals for a Hexhead.

On the left seal there are markings visible.

On the right there is a small chamfer on the outside and a lip on the inside.

I believe left is top and right is bottom.

If I am wrong please advise for the benefit of the collective. Thanks.

Ah ya see you say that but what about if the guy that replaced it the last time was a numpty like me and put it in upside down? :ROFLMAO: 🤷‍♂️

Think about it, or apply a bit of logic, it might be difficult for you, but it will slowly click into place .. :D

If it’s only just started leaking since the last time someone put it, then logic says it’ll be the correct way up.

Better to actually know by looking at a seal what is the correct way. Someone will be along who knows by looking at the picture which is the correct way up.

Then it will all click into place. ;)

I am pretty sure I am correct, numbers/text on the seal facing up. My exercise is really only to help the bod/me who comes looking for info on fork seals and to help them avoid doing it wrong. As the OP proves it is possible to do it wrong and I can quite envisage a lad taking out the seal and putting in on the bench and then being unsure which way it came out.

It’s the seal on the left.
