I've got to replace the fork seals on my lads Basic so I thought I'd take the opportunity to spruce up the front end a bit.
Does anyone know of a company, or indeed a product for DIY that does the plasti coat type of finish on the fork sliders ?
I'm guessing the reflectors would need replacing .

Erm isnt there a product called plasitkote or Plasti- coat or Plasticote or similar that does the thing you want it to do. Seem to remember seeing it on the tube netweb somewhere?

Hmmm..

White plastikote may work .

Anyone used this products and can comment on finish / colour match ( white ) ?

I'm not sure but I think the original finish may just be powder coat. I've been trying to strip mine and its a nightmare.

Aye I reckon thats the way forward in any event - blasting then hit em with a decent PC

My Basic seems to have plastic type coating, my lads seems more of a paint finish . I think I'll take your advice and powder coat .
It'll be a winter job now though ...

That wasn't advice! I was hoping to see how yours turned out before having mine done :D

Sometimes the OEM coating is applied to a rough as cast finish, and it is almost impossible to remove even with abrasive grit blasting- it seems to get into the pores of the alloy. It isnt always powdercoat either, but some form of two pack coating.

Before you powdercoat structural aluminum you should speak to the manufacturer and ask what heat treatment it has received to make certain it can be powdercoated without weakening it - and any I have asked rule reheating for powdercoat out , although no one seems to heed their advice.
Powdercoat isnt as popular as it once was, two pack epoxy urethane is tougher and more durable and is now more popular, and it is possible to buy it in a spray can with some form of internal system which releases the catalyst just before spraying.

Think this is the 2 pak stuff. Bought it a couple years ago, for a project which never got off the ground, so not tried it. This is clear coat, but think it comes in colours. Must be other stuff about?

Yep that sort of stuff may be better Tango, I'm thinking more of a spray can finish then a clear coat or two on top, there's not a thick coat left of the original finish on his sliders so I'll wet and dry them polish the top flat surface and maybe zinc prime before spraying.
Won't be happening until winter when his bike comes off the road.
I could get some product to practice with on Robs sliders though. I'm sure he must have an old set knocking about ......:augie
