Fork stanchions

2013 GSA....all good. Paint not fallen off...engine not corroded....sweet gear change. Is there something wrong...should I upgrade to an LC?

This is what happens to hexheads when off-roading, looks like a major design flaw - needs an immediate recall ;)

Incorrect - that issue was purely down to too many bananas.
Overloaded.
It would have happened to any bike

Serves him right for driving over the other bloke's top box.

Caused by the heavily modified Ohlins rear shock being too stiff, as JonnyBravo said 'would've happened to any bike'

Just had a quick check, and it looks like my fork stanchions on the HEXHEAD are still good, phew.

Rear swing arm is about 1/2 the weight of the front. Its got no other support (forks etc) and has to handle that huge pendulum final drive. Accident waiting to happen. We should all be scared. Very scared.

Followed this car for three miles along country lanes, headlight and fog lights illuminated at all times. We both stopped when the road narrowed and met an oncoming vehicle. To my horror the next thing I saw was the reversing light come on and the Peugeot in front of me reversing straight back into me. "sorry I didn't see you" was the excuse. I managed to ride home unhurt with a buckled wheel as well as crushed oil cooler and mangled beak section and wonky headlight. Some of the bracketry holding the light bar and the engine bars were also damaged. Not sure of the ultimate cost but it will be £000's probably, with the consequent hike in my premium next year as well.:mad::mad:

Stanchions still perfect though......... UNSTOPPABLE.

Witnesses? He just drove into the back of my car?

A good reason to get a VERY loud horn.

I hope you have pictures of the scrapes along the road to prove the bike was shoved backwards.

Why would you have to pay more ???? The myopic bastard driver who reversed into you is responsible. Claim from him !!

I am claiming from her (the old girl in the photo), but it will still mean I have to admit to having been in an accident within the last 5 years when asked next year at renewal time.
The very fact that you've been in an accident, even a no fault accident, seems to put your premium up even though it shouldn't. Try it. Go to any of the price comparison websites and fill in all the boxes required for a quote. Do this twice, once admitting to having been in a no fault accident, and a second time stating that you've not been involved in any incidents for the last five years. In my experience the two prices will differ considerably.

Bendy, there were witnesses and I've got all their details and many more photos. To her credit the lady who hit me has admitted liability and told her insurance company this also so there shouldn't be any problems. But I'll still be GS-less for a month or so though by the time it's all worked out.

PS. You can't see it, but the view out of the rear view mirror in the car was totally obscured by a large dog carrying cage in the boot covered by a blanket. So she may well not have seen me sat stationary behind her.

It does happen :blast
Maybe the rider could have avoided being in a position where the reversing car driver had chance to clobber him (sorry SteveM)

Maybe? But when traffic stops on a narrow lane you have few options. Anyone tried to push a GS(A) backwards up a hill?

I had a van driver do the same to me but thankfully he felt the bump and no harm done. I had stopped with a 20ft gap but van driver wanted to reverse at least 100 yards to make space for three oncoming cars. My horn was totally pointless. He probably thought it was an angry motorist sick of waiting.

Mmm maybe bikes should be fitted with a reverse gear just in case of incidents like this.:green gri:thumb2:augie

Goldwings actually do have a reverse via a double head starter motor. I have no idea how it connects to the gearbox. Maybe there are two ring gears.
