I'm in the process of piecing together my (mainly cosmtic) damage after my little incident with the lorry and have discovered slight front/back movement between the slider and main fork body in the right leg.

It's only noticeable when the wheel is off the floor. (First time I've had it on a block).

I didn't think my wheel made contact so wasn't expecting any damage to the forks. Headlight, speedo, mudguard taking the knock.

So, is the free play normal?

Or am I going to be the first to strip a fork?

Forkin bike!

Had my forks swapped by BMW after only 500 miles - the top slider bearing had startes to break-up. Felt like a dodgy head bearing but was the forks. Both forks replaced rather than rebuild, no complaints there!

ps I had what you could describe as a 'sudden stop' like you - best forget that part when trying for warranty claim!

Cheers, Rick.

Mines going to the dealer today with the same problem.I was going to post it here, but thought it best to see what happens first.

I only noticed mine when changing the wheels, same as Rick.

I'll let you know the outcome :thumb

Cheers guys,
I felt a rattle/klonking whilst riding it off road on my first day of ownership (similar to loose SHBs). So I think its been there from new.
As you say, only detectable when wheel off the floor.

Will visit my dealer this weekend.

Forking told you so!

Spout,

If you had a proper bike like a good old 1150 GSA, ohh just like mine and your old one that did many many miles of trouble free and fork free biking then you wouldnt need to go and visit the dealer then would you!

Naa really just green still.

Best keep it locked up and under your bed at Prince Town as some big Australian type person might just nick it on you and forget to tell you the next day that he had stuffed it in his tent bag!!
:clap
LOL

Cheers mate

Repairs

Vern,

Southport Superbikes are my local dealer - no prob at all with their service. So far they have replaced battery, forks, starter, head bearings (now't wrong with them - was the forks!) and done a software update to cure a charging problem. All done without a grumble and a choice of demo bikes to use whilst they had mine.

After such a glowing report for Southport SB will expect a pint or two next time I see any of the team.....

Cheers, Rick.

Only the engine left to replace.........  Are the HP2's having a lot of problems or have you just been unlucky ?

I think he's just been unlucky! But when you think of the hammering some of these bikes are having, they're getting off lightly I think.

I though they were having a larf when they told me it had a two year warranty on it,veeeerrrrry brave indeed :thumb

Just collected mine from BVM in Stroud today.Nice new set of forks fitted, thankyou very much :thumb

They were going to rebuild them, but the coating on the sliders was pretty badly worn,so to save the hassle, they just put a new set on.No questions asked, and done pretty much straight away.Top people

New fork lowers and bushes for me.
Nitride coating badly worn, and bushes in RHS leg worn.
Feels much better on the brakes now.

Forgot to mention that I had to do some "road side repairs" after a damper rod hadn't been installed correctly and the forks locked solid.
Had an interesting ride down through Wales to Princetown

Fork Off

I am feeling a bit left out here , my HP2 is out most weekends and it has done all the big bike challange weekends and a lot of trail riding , so far nothing has been replaced ? What am i doing Wrong , I must admit I had to push it once or twice during the Brownie points run due to < i think a faulty starter switch (it felt like it was not making contact ) and after a power wash the bike's lights would not turn off when the Key was removed ? Cranky Can bus me thinks ...... need to change my fork oil though
