I have a xr600 front end on the beast at the moment but the wheel and the disc are buckled and front brake is very poor. My question is I have brought this husky 610 front end complete with the frame. I'm tempted to swap the hole thing on to the gs any thoughts the disc is a bit bigger wheel is straight and forks are straight and like new under the gators. Any thoughts the bike is just a fun hack don't want to spend silly money on it.

Richie Moore"s site has some decent information about fork swaps, and one of the bearing suppliers {All Balls?}have a list showing which bikes have similar bearing, or can be swapped with stock bearings.

Race tech and Maxton's sites also have valuable advice.

Any fork will work after a fashion, but if you want decent performance you will need to respring and revalve them, and if you have the skill to do that the stock forks can be made to perform mare than adequately, at little cost.

Yes the trouble is I have not got the stock forks I brought the bike with the Honda forks fitted the forks aren't that bad just the brakes are scary after you ride modern bikes. I would go back to standard if I could get them cheap enough but all the ones I've seen are silly money plus I need wheel etc.

Front end update

Quick update on the front end change. I striped out the Honda Xr forks and yokes and found that the top yoke was only sitting on the stem loose and a long bolt was going right through the hollow stem with a mix of washers and spacers to hold it in place the nut was only half on see photo .im not saying it was that dangerous but it was a bit of a mess.i was told when I brought the bike it was done at a bike shop !! I have ordered some new bearings to suit the husky stem just need to reduce the length now.im going to cut the lock stops off the husky frame and weld them on the gs frame as well.ive started now so I've got to finish it
