Need a little advice the right hand fork leg has just started to move round if you get a hold of it when cleaning it have checked the top nut its tight left hand side is not as bad ? can not see any thing wrong with it any ideas any one thanks jim

now then Jim

it would help if you told us which model and where the excess movement is if possible. Also please try to describe the 'movement' in a bit more detail. e.g Is it side to side movement, up & down or is it turning in a rotary kinda fashion?

Re the fork leg

Sorry its a 1150 Gs 2002 mod
i should have said it turns in rotary direction each way round only realised when drying it i have no probs with any handeling or any thing bike runs and rides as goods as the day i got it . 44000+ miles Hope this helps abit thanks :thumb2

Junior I presume you mean the stanchions at the top?? just at the top yoke?

If so? Yes they can move a bit as there are no internal springs and no real clamps as they move around more than normal forks in the way they work

you can nip the top 14mm headed nuts under the plastic plug against a thin 21mm (Or maybe 22mm I never can remember till I'm doing one) spanner on the underside of the yolk on the big nut
BUT be careful you can get the plastic cable clips off without cutting them ad re use them ALSo there are 2 x 3 mm allen bolts in that space, one per leg, so don't be going mad and manage to rip them out! THey are for expelling the air after you have replaced seals or whatever.

 If No and it's the alloy lowers moving PARK IT UP AND DON'T RIDE IT Help will be along shortly :aidan :aidan :aidan

Don't worry - Your forks are all OK.

You can make any GS forks ( stanchion) twist while it's in place if you twist them hard enough. It's normal.

Stancions

Phew, thats ghood I thought mine was the only one that did that as it's been a
dave gs.bit more stressed than most!.
