For a few years now I have visited the Maginot line and its bunkers. Despite a fair bit of research and talking to others nobody has told me about the Pre First world war bunkers at Mutzig
http://www.fort-mutzig.eu
Its just 25 miles from Colmar so I have passed it many times and never seen adverts or signs for it, Has anybody here visited it. It looks very impressive and for its age in much better condition than the Maginot forts.

Sorry I can't help you Soots. But we did come across this in the same area last year. Bit run down with lots of caution "Don't leave valuables in your vehicle" signs in the parking area.

I have just had a great holiday in the Vosages and managed a visit to Fort Mutzig. Its a vast site and only a small part is open to visitors. The tour is in German or French and takes 2-1/2 hours. The guide we had was very enthusiastic and also gave a brief description in English. The site is on a French military base and the visited area is run by the "Friends of Mutzig" who spend their spare time renovating and preserving things. Its only 7euro and well worth the money. Its not yet up to the visiting experience of Thornville or similar Maginot line forts but due to its age and being the prototype concrete fort well woth the visit.
